Description

Praise for Terry Pratchett“One of the world’s most delightful writers.” xa0 xa0 —Cory Doctorow, Boing Boing “Some writers simply possess the Gift. No matter what they bring out . . . it’s sure to be compulsively readable. That’s certainly the case withxa0Terry Pratchett.” xa0 xa0 —Michael Dirda, The Washington Post Book World “The great Terry Pratchett, whose wit is metaphysical, who creates an energetic and lively secondary world, who has a multifarious genius for strong parody . . . who deals with death with startling originality. He writes amazing sentences.”xa0 xa0 —A. S. Byatt, The New York Times “Clever . . . insightful. . . . [Pratchett’s] wry wit is as good as gold.”xa0 xa0 —Lylah M. Alphonse, The Boston Globe “One of the most consistently funny writers around; a master of the stealth simile, the time-delay pun, and the deflationary three-part list.” xa0 xa0 —Ben Aaronovitch, The Guardian (London)“What Pratchett does is not just great, but unparalleled. In five hundred years, it won’t be the Nobel laureates who are being studied. It’s going to be this guy.”xa0 xa0 —Brandon Sanderson, Tor.com TERRY PRATCHETT is the acclaimed creator of the global bestselling Discworld series, the first of which, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983. Features & Highlights

  • A collection of essays and other non fiction from Terry Pratchett, spanning the whole of his writing career from his early years to the present day.
  • Terry Pratchett has earned a place in the hearts of readers the world over with his bestselling Discworld series -- but in recent years he has become equally well-known and respected as an outspoken campaigner for causes including Alzheimer's research and animal rights.
  • A Slip of the Keyboard
  • brings together for the first time the finest examples of Pratchett's non fiction writing, both serious and surreal: from musings on mushrooms to what it means to be a writer (and why banana daiquiris are so important); from memories of Granny Pratchett to speculation about Gandalf's love life, and passionate defences of the causes dear to him.     With all the humour and humanity that have made his novels so enduringly popular, this collection brings Pratchett out from behind the scenes of the Discworld to speak for himself -- man and boy, bibliophile and computer geek, champion of hats, orangutans and Dignity in Dying.
  • Snuff
  • was the bestselling adult hardcover novel of 2011.
  • A Blink of the Screen
  • , Terry's short fiction collection, was also one of the bestselling hardcovers of 2012.

A must read non fiction

Sir Terry was a very funny writer even writing non fiction. This book contains speeches that he gave over the years. It also makes one aware of how Alzheimer's can strike at any time. A must read

It's Pterry

A compilation of speeches and short non-fiction pieces, largely unrelated to one another until the end, when they focus on his war against the Alzheimer's that was killing him as he wrote. The individual pieces tend to be short and not too profound, but they are written in Pratchett's characteristic voice and infused with his wit. If you like Pratchett's work you'll like this; if you're not in love with him already, this is not the place to start.

A wonderful collection of Terry Pratchett's writing for old and new fans alike

Like many of this book’s probable readers, I have long enjoyed Terry Pratchett’s writing and was deeply saddened to hear of his death. Terry Pratchett has the uncommon ability to fluidly meld laugh-out-loud humor and enduring commentary of great depth. This book is no exception, though may feel quite different to readers who are more used to experiencing Terry Pratchett’s voice through his Discworld characters as opposed to directly and on ordinary topics. I think where this collection really shines is in Terry Pratchett’s very honest essays on his writing process and in his essays on assisted death. While the collection feels very unified and allows the reader to see a few topics in a different light as Terry Pratchett addressed a given topic for various audiences, it does sacrifice some variety as a result, and some readers may find the collection a little repetitive.
Long-time Pratchett fans will no doubt enjoy this collection of Terry Pratchett’s non-fiction, and it might just gain him a few new fans as well.

I loved Terry Pratchett

I loved Terry Pratchett. This one is about his early writing experiences, speeches he gave on science fiction and fantasy, and his struggle with Alzheimers.
