Hard to put down

Caden Westmore's sphere of responsibilities continues to enlarge as the United States slides into civil war. Besides his military duties, he deals with family obligations and has taken on the mentoring of a local boy. Someone once said that heroes aren't so much extraordinary people, as they are ordinary people swept up in extraordinary events. Caden doesn't see himself as special. He meets the challenges as they come, with honor, a strong sense of duty, and a dedication to helping others. Like Horatius at the bridge, he stands firm, to serve and protect.

Plenty of action here, with many compelling sub-plots and well-developed supporting characters. The concerns about survival in the face of a societal breakdown and food shortages has me thinking about how prepared my family would be to meet such a situation.

Hope there is a third!

I had to purchase and read this book as soon as I finished the first. It, too, is well written and suspenseful, but not quite as entertaining as the first to me. So much time was spent developing the relationship with Maria and the townspeople in the first book; I felt like some of that needed to be carried forward to this one. I certainly recommend the book. Well written, filled with action and adventure as well as mystery and intrigue! Enjoy!

Nice change in point-of-view...

The author gives a new view of America turned upside down. Told from the point of view of an Army Officer tasked by the Governor with protecting a small town in Washington state, this story greatly differs from the frequent "lone survivor" stories. He wrote two books in the series and I hope he continues the series so we can see how this story develops.

A Great Read!!

This book is awesome! I read a lot of books and very few really grab me. I couldn't put this one down. This is a great story with a very likeable, American Hero type of Character that you so rarely see these days. I highly recommend this series.
