Description

Lena Gregory lives in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island with her husband and three children. When she was growing up, she spent many lazy afternoons on the beach, in the yard, anywhere she could find to curl up with a good book. She loves reading as much now as she did then, but she now enjoys the added pleasure of creating her own stories. Features & Highlights

  • For diner owner Gia Morelli, her seasonal fall menu calls for two main ingredients—maple syrup and murder . . .
  • While the first hints of autumn grace Boggy Creek, Florida, Gia misses the colorful harvest traditions she left behind in New York. On a scramble to make new fall memories—and promote her irresistible pumpkin spice waffles—things take a dark turn when she gets roped into the Haunted Town Festival, a spooky celebration held on deserted farmlands. The desolate area conjures plenty of eerie vibes at night, but Gia and her best friend, Savannah, are nearly frightened to death upon the discovery of the event organizer’s body buried in the nearby woods. More alarming, the local rumor mill says the woman’s shady dealings may have egged someone into sending her to an early grave. Now, there’s no shortage of creepy clues to feast on as Gia and her pals try to stop a killer with a very scary appetite . . .

Fun series!

Fun book with Gia, Savannah, Hunt, Leo, and the rest of the group in Boggy Creek, Florida! It’s time for the annual Haunted Town Festival and Gia’s All-Day Breakfast Café has been invited to participate in having a table and house to decorate and haunt. Gia and Savannah go out to the fairgrounds to meet with event organizer Barbara, only to be unable to locate her. They do manage to find her phone and later, the security guard finds Barbara’s dead body. As usual, Gia and Savannah get involved in the investigation, much to Hunt’s dismay. Gia has really come a long ways from how she was when she first arrived in Florida. It has been interesting to watch her growing. Gia’s homeless friend, Harley, is attacked at one point after he speaks with the police and now Gia blames herself. She is determined to find the killer and not let Savannah get hurt as well. Truly interesting story with an intriguing outcome when the killer is revealed. The food at Gia’s café always sounds amazing and it would definitely be a spot I visited. I look forward to reading more about this group of characters and hopefully seeing Gia and Hunt’s relationship grow more. Highly recommend this fun series!

Well plotted escape read

There's lots to like here--an interesting Florida setting, a diner, characters with various flaws and fears, and, of course, murder. This was an escapist read that I really enjoyed, overall. I did get a little tired of Gia and Savannah professing their undying loyalty and best friend-ship throughout the whole book. We get it, already! And Gia occasionally gets histrionic, which I could do without. But other than that, I feel like it's well-plotted, interesting, and good enough to sail me away from the real world for a few hours. Mission accomplished!
