Great read aloud for older elementary

I bought this to use as a future read aloud for my 4th grade class. I pre-read the book and am glad I did. There are some topics that I would say away from or censor if I were to read it out loud (harming of animals, periods), but otherwise it is a great book that could lead to a class discussion.

Good survival novel in the first person

Alone is a definite page turner. I almost regret reading through it too quickly but I couldn't help it. 😁 I'm aware of the age range this was written for, but it resonated with me regardless. It's a great survival novel written in the first person in verse poetry, which I think is refreshingly unique and made me feel more immersed in the story and main character's experiences.

Animal cruelty

This is probably an ok book, but I believe that there should be a warning that the book contains a description of extreme animal cruelty.

Great Read-Aloud!!

I used this as a read-aloud in my third-grade classroom. The students were HOOKED and begged me to read the story until we finished! There were a could parts in the story that I skipped. Nothing too bad but a few swear words or one chapter about the girl getting her period that I didn't want to read aloud to a classroom of mostly 8-year-old boys. Otherwise, I LOVED it!
