Classic Sabuda.

I have most of Sabuda's popups. In this he returns to his roots of designing in all white, which I preferred over the glossy Reinhart years. The book consists of an inspirational saying starting on one plain page and finishing on the next in a sophisticated pop-up such as a field of sunflowers or a castle. Yes it is the most basic of inspirational thoughts but sometimes that is what a person needs. A graduate might appreciate it, but a person who has forgotten their passion may be reminded of a lost dream. I wondered if the author had been through a time of trial and if these were the thoughts that kept him going.

As far as the pop-ups go they are classic Sabuda: complex, complete, sophisticated. For a person just learning about the artist this is a primer of his approach. For a long term fan there were no "wow" moments, "just" the usual appreciation of an artist I admire...but no boundary pushing. For Sabuda it is a "safe" creation....another reason I wondered if he has been through a life crisis. If that is the case I hope this is his healing and a warm-up for a...not return as we can't (and perhaps shouldn't) go back as we are changed by life...perhaps a re-creation of his art based on who he is now.
I overstep my knowledge in speculating on the background of this piece. He has given me many moments of delight over the years and I hope the best for him and his artistic passion.

Charming, but ...

Believe is being marketed as serious competition for Dr. Seuss's Oh The Places You Will Go. IT IS NOT.

It is sophomoric at best, simplistic as a reality, sadly disappointing. Perhaps it will be better in Italian or French for its uniqueness, but in English and as competition for Dr. Seuss, it is not. It is at best charming by stretching your imagination, but not worth the status of a book.

This is underscored by the manner in which Amazon chose to package it. Not in a box to protect a hardcover book, but in a padded envelope allowing it to take its hits along the way.

Not worthy as a collectable after this Amazon shipping.

Maybe my favorite book from Sabuda

I have all of Sabuda's pop-up books, including some commemorative ones. I think I might like this one better than any of the other Sabuda books, with the exception of the white Christmas books. This has simple but complex pop up mechanisms, an oxymoron I know. But once again ,the white pop-up style is stunning and the topics are sophisticated enough for adults as well as children (to read to, not turned loose on 😁).
Robert is a master paper engineer and an incredibly talented artist.

Very good complex pop-ups on every other page

A simple but original story with charming and complex pop-ups on every other page (6 in all) The pop-ups are all white with no color. It is really beautiful in a quiet peaceful way, I love this book (although I really bought it for the pop-ups)

More great pop up art from the master

My mom collects pop up books, particularly from this author. I got it for her as a present and she was very pleased with it.

It shipped with a plastic sleeve covering the whole book to keep anything from slipping between the pages and causing damage.

Pop-up Possibilities Amazing for All Ages

This pop-up is for children or adults. The pages turn easily and return to form. There are a variety of objects, each with a brief message encouraging one to hope and believe in possibilities. The paper engineering is amazing.

Simple text

This isn't as good as The Night Before Christmas, but it's still good. The text is very simple. The pop-outs are good but again aren't as good as the Christmas book. The text is to simple for a 10 year old. They love the pop-outs though.
