Features & Highlights

  • Bess Stovall is famous for being famous. "When it comes to Wemmicks, she's the best," they say. Who wouldn't want to join her Wonderful Wemmicks Club? The catch is this: only Wemmicks made of maple can join–the best wood from the best forest.
  • But Punchinello can't join since he is made of willow. "Willow is weak wood," says Bess. "No one wants to be a willow." And Punchinello is the only willow in Wemmicksville. Everyone looks down on him, even his friend Lucia.
  • Punchinello learns a valuable lesson when Eli the woodcarver helps him see that he is special because the Maker made him–the Maker even chose his wood. This latest tale from Wemmicksville will surprise you as Punchinello himself shocks the town with how special he really is.

It doesn't get any better.

My daughter's religion teacher recommended these books to me. Her words say it best, "It doesn't get any better." The stories are endearing! The meanings are simple and clear to young readers. I'm sending a set to my niece and nephews. You won't be disappointed.

Love the Wemmicks - this story is a winner! Teaches an important and timely lesson.

Love the lesson presented in this book. Have purchased many of Max Lucado's children's books because I love the messages they present. This one is particularly good since it seems so many people are status conscious these days. When I read it to my 5 year old grandson I was not sure he would "get it", but he had no trouble following the story and understanding the lesson. Purchased a second copy to send to my granddaughter.

A weak story

I haven't finished the entire story yet so perhaps it gets better. But I am finding the plot to be weak and not well developed. I have a nother of Lucado's books that I absolutely love so I had hoped this would be to the same caliber but I am disappointed so far.

Great book with a lesson

Great book. One of my daughter's favorite. Can have conversation about being different but special and inclusion in a way that she can understand. she is 5. It helps me check wether she or anyone at her school plays alone.. With so many sad stories about kids not having friends, i want my daughter not to be one of them of course but also I want her to look for others that might be alone and approach them. We can always find a something special in anyone if we give then the chance.

Great Book

Excellent for little and growing children, especially special needs children. Has great correlations to Holy Scripture. Belongs in every home. Parents need to read this to their children – many times.
