Description

Praise for To Helvetica and Back “Will intrigue you from A to Z and then some...I fell in love with feisty Clare and her Rescued Word from the first broken ‘L’—and so will you...Paige Shelton has come up with a unique combination of characters and setting.”—Susan Wittig Albert, New York Times bestselling author “Clare is a charming protagonist who loves her work. The minor characters and subplots accelerated the novel's pace to add intrigue and suspense...I love cozy mysteries that are fast paced, riveting and intriguing, filled with exciting characters. To Helvetica and Back fits that bill nicely, and I can't wait to read future releases in this great, exciting and loveable new series.”—MyShelf.com xa0 “I really like Clare, Jodie, Chester and Baskerville (the shop cat) as well as the side characters. Seth and Mutt look to be keepers...Shelton also writes the Farmer’s Market series and the Country Cooking School mysteries. I think I’ve found a new favorite!”—Kings River Life Magazine Paige Shelton is the New York Times bestselling author of To Helvetica and Back , the debut novel in the Dangerous Type Mysteries. She also pens the Farmers’ Market Mysteries, including Bushel Full of Murder and Merry Market Murder , and the Country Cooking School Mysteries, including If Onions Could Spring Leeks and If Catfish Had Nine Lives .

Complex and entertaining

With a backdrop of the Star City Film Festival, Clare Henry and her grandfather are busy in their shop, The Rescued Word. Clare's boyfriend brings in a box of ribbon tins, a young man brings in a dozen old Selectrics, and a movie star walks in to order some custom note cards. He's followed by his sister, his agent, his old girlfriend and his new girlfriend. As Clare is recovering from all that excitement, she hears sirens and discovers the movie star is covered with blood and is now accused of killing his sister.
Shelton has written a complex and entertaining mystery. She mixes the glitz of the film festival with the normal, almost mundane, activities of running a business and maintaining relationships. Clare and her grandfather clearly love their work, and each of Shelton's characters are written with obvious affection. Clare struggles trying to figure out when the actors are acting and when they're being honest. She wants to believe the best of everyone, but she also knows that can be dangerous.
I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the Dangerous Type Mystery series. You could feel the cold snow on your neck and be jarred by the sirens, be awestruck walking into the secret party and taste the yummy food at the buffet. Heck, this book is just plain fun! I can't wait for the next book in this series.

... an interesting part of the plot and I did enjoy reading about it

The movie festival in town was an interesting part of the plot and I did enjoy reading about it. I wish the book had been longer, so the work of The Rescued Word could have given more time. That was really interesting in Book 1 in this series, so I missed learning more about Bookman Style, etc. while Clare was being involved in the mystery. The mystery part and characters were very good!

I loved how Clare got into trouble with out really trying

I loved how Clare got into trouble with out really trying. I love how it was so edge of my seat, I didn't see who did it until the end. I can't wait for Paige's next book. I love the characters, I feel like they are my friends.

For fans of film and Sundance

This is the sequel to Shelton's To Helvetica And Back. It's set in a fictional town which strongly resembles Park City, Utah, during the time of a film festival which parallels the Sundance Festival (with even a sneaky little nod to Sundance in the form of a secret password). It involves movies stars, wannabe stars, polygamists, and, of course, a spot of murder. (For what is a cozy without a murder to solve?)
I've read every single one of Shelton's books, and this new series is my favorite. The setting is charming, for one thing. And, unlike many other cozy authors, Shelton's protagonists are never stupid or helpless women who must constantly be rescued. That's a big plus.
If you're a cozy fan, a Sundance fan, a skiing town fan, or just someone looking for a fun winter read, give this a try. It's a delightful little escape from reality.

Now I have to go buy the First in the series!!!

Loved the characters and varied backgrounds. I can usually predict the outcome in cozy mysteries pretty early but this one was a good twist. I enjoyed it very much and so did my mom.

Ribbon boxes

2nd book in the Dangerous Type Mystery and as much as I like book 1 this one just increased my interest in typewriters. Clare and her grandfather own a wonderful shop in Star City. The shop has old repaired typewriters, a printing press so they can repair old books and yes people still write notes so the have a paper and pens too, It's winter and a Movie Festival is going on with stars and fans There's a murder and Clare and her boy friend get involved. Fast moving and lots of twists and turns A box full of ribbon boxes and a big surprise.

Another stellar entry in the series

I fell in love with Clare when I read the first book in this series. I have been anxiously awaiting this book to get to know her a little better and see what's been going on. Love everything about this - the setting, the pace, the characters.
