  • Sadie White’s summer job is at the beach, but she won’t be working as a lifeguard. One breath at a time, they’re going to find out…

Not the best, but an easy and fluffy read

I was looking for an easy and fluffy read and stumbled upon Breathe. Yes, there is a lot of cheese in this book, but I didn't mind it very much because I didn't go into it thinking I would read anything earth shattering.

Breathe is a Cinderella style story about a girl, Sadie, who has a rough life, but ends up meeting and falling in love with her own prince charming, Jax. Yes, the writing wasn't the best by any means, and it's all a bit unbelievable (and predictable), but I still found it enjoyable for what it was. I ended up liking Marcus the best and was glad that he is featured in the next book of this series. As for Sadie, she was the author's typical Mary Sue/completely innocent heroine and Jax, the bad boy hero with a heart of gold. The romance took center stage, so there isn't much plot, but this book is pretty good if you're looking for a quick and light read without any heavy lifting.

NOT FOR TEENS

Outrageous! My 12 year old got this in her middle school library. So I got the rest of them on Kindle for her. I began reading this one yesterday and it makes 50 Shades only slightly more graphic! This is NOT for teens!!!!!!

Insta-Love and 0 to 100 Romance...

I wanted to love this book, and for the most part I did, but there were 2 crucial scenes that knocked this book down from perfection for me. First, let me tell you what I loved, the cast. The characters are colorful and diverse. Abbi Glines writes both characters like Jax, whom I swoon over and fall head over heels for, as well as characters like Jessica, whom I want to punch in the face repeatedly because they are just truly awful. I liked the determination and passion in Sadie, I found her relate-able...she wants to be more than the small town she lives in and her dead-beat mom. That type of determination in a teenager is admirable. It's also an important life lesson to learn that you can't take on the world alone and eventually you are going to reach a breaking point where you have to ask for help.

In contrast, there was insta-love...which normally doesn't bother me but there wasn't even a build up to the romance here. It was like Sadie spent a day with Jax and boom, she loves him and is confessing it to the masses. Then there is another scene where Sadie has her first orgasm and it was just simply awkward. I was uncomfortable reading it for two reasons. Foremost, I need a build up in characters, and the development of Jax and Sadie's relationship was just not there, they hadn't spent enough time together, or even enough intimate moments together for him to be doing this like this. Secondly, the scene was awkward, it was just, in my opinion, not well written. As in I was extremely uncomfortable and almost stopped reading the book because there was literally 5-10 pages of awkward first orgasm description. I am cringing as I write this but it is an important disclaimer that you all should know.

That being said, I am a firm believer in giving the second book a chance because I find that authors either improve or falter on the second book and there remainder of the series plays out like so. Therefore, I will be reading the second book and my thoughts on that are to come!

Breathe (YA)

Book #50 Read in 2014
Breathe by Abbi Glines (YA)

This is the first book in a young adult "smut" series, for lack of a better term. It reminded me of a 50 Shades of Gray for teenagers....but a bit naughtier than what I remember reading as a teen. Sadie gets a summer job as a maid for a rich family; the owner turns out to be young rock star Jaz. The two connect instantly and begin a relationship while trying to maintain privacy. Of course they are found out and their cover is blown. This book was a quick read and the characters were interesting but about halfway through it could have wrapped up for me. But I stuck with it so I could see that happy ever after in the end.

Definitely a fun and fast read... much needed palate cleanser

I read this pretty quickly. It was a fun and fast read. Exactly what I needed for the moment. Sometimes it felt too fast and not enough depth to the story. It's YA and you can definitely tell it is. I mean it's teenagers in love. So, of course its going to be cheesy. But if you want a cutesy fast romantic read this is definitely one for you

Loved it!!!!

I loved this book :) I knew I was going to love this book just based on it being a rock star romance, and it being by Abbi Glines!!! :D This book took me 3 hours to read, and I cried when it was over :( All I know is that I need to purchase the next one soon, because I heard it was Marcus' turn; and I'm so glad he gets a happy ending as well :) Can't wait to meet new characters!!! :D

So this is what this book was basically about:

We have a town called Sea Breeze (which is why this series' name is called Sea Breeze). We have two POV's, Sadie who is a normal girl who happens to be working for a famous rock star named Jax, and is very mature for her age.

Even though Sadie isn’t impressed by Jax’s fame, he so happens to be drawn to her (predictable but cute none the less). Everything about Sadie fascinates Jax, but he fights his attraction, because rock stars and normal people don't match. But as the summer stretches on, Jax’s passion leaves him breathless and Sadie feels like the only source of oxygen. (Which is why he calls her his "air" so original.)

If you ever thought rock stars and regular people don't work in a relationship, just wait till you read this book, because this book proves you wrong.

Warning: This book is cliché :)
