Meh

Just ok. I thought it was a book that would provide fun activities while camping, but instead it’s more of a nature activity book. I also thought the illustrations could be better/more clear for an instructional book. I also felt that some of the activities weren’t very good. For example, making a magnifying glass out of a plastic soda bottle. Flimsy recycled plastic does not serve well as a magnifying glass and you risk getting cut on a knife or burnt with a hot glue gun to make something that doesn’t work. Also, who goes camping with a hot glue gun? Another activity I thought was silly was the one about making a shelter. The instructions basically tell you to prop some sticks up against a tree. A more appropriate activity would be teaching the child how to set up a tent, good locations for a shelter, etc. I’d pass on this one.

Perfect book to get kids in on the camping action

This book is perfect to keep my kids (6,8) busy at home and camping with fun activities and experiments. They can’t wait to try out making a compass, building a fire and knot tying (hope they doesn’t try those on the younger siblings.) The illustrations are fun and it’s easy for my kids to read and follow along on the activities. They are excited to go camping soon and it’s the perfect size to add to their day packs to keep them busy! This is an almost total win for this mom, the only downside? I should have bought two so there isn’t fighting 😂

Fantastic activities for kids

Looks great! It just arrived and my 8yo is flipping through it and finding things we can do/make now in preparation for upcoming camping trips. So excited! I’m loving the fun information it provides, such as way to estimate how much time is left until sunset! I think it’ll be fun for all the kids (ages 2-8).

Fun family book for your campsite, a hiking trail or even your back yard

Our daughter Juniper just turned 5 and while we know she cannot read it herself just yet we are thrilled to add this book to our outdoor adventure collection. We were going to keep it in our camper but I’d rather keep it handy in our everyday backpack instead. There a lot of great activities with no supplies required and the ones that do need materials ask for basic household items that most have readily available. Looking forward to many years of use and fun. I’ve recommended it to a few friends already.

Engaging and educational activities for a whole season of camping

As a family who camps all the time throughout the spring and summer, I am loving this resource. It contains both helpful outdoors information and fun activities. My girls were excited as soon as they saw all the projects. They both wanted to dive in right away and asked if we could go camping immediately. We won't be lacking for interesting and engaging projects this year. I love the variety of projects and how most can be repeated over the years, with an interest that spans a wide age range.

As an educator, I was impressed with the clear and easy to follow layout, as well as, the clarity in both stating what you will learn and then the recap reminding kids of what they now know. It also poses questions to keep kids engaged and thinking. The illustrations are captivating and helpful. My five year old was instantly engaged and my three year old intrigued. The projects are practical, as well as fun for kids of all ages. The information expands your child's knowledge of the outdoors and gives them a greater appreciation and respect for nature. As a parent, I love that it includes information about setting up camp and how to stay safe, but also has purely fun things like different smores recipes. My daughter was especially interested in identifying animals by their footprints and scat. She also insisted we stay up late to study the constellations.

We can't wait to get out camping in a few weeks. I am feeling equipped with engaging and educational activities for a whole season of camping. I'm positive this will become a well-loved and well-worn book. I definitely recommend a copy for any family who loves camping or just spending time outside in nature.
