Painful Read

This book was overly long and parts kept repeating. Alisa I found to be quite annoying although I did enjoy the buildup to her relationship with Korgan. I really did not connect to her character at all. I found myself skipping parts just to get to the next action part and the long-awaited end to the book.

Formulaic, with horrendous dialogue

Every Iris Johansen book is the same-- there is a gorgeous, unconquerable women, who denigrates, insults, and speaks rudely to a handsome exceptional man who likes being abused. The female character continuously moans and groans about everything, on and on, and then he finally gets her to say something nice about something and then they finally become a couple. I like some of the elements, for instance the people who are telepathic with animals, but the dialogue is the worst thing I ever read, and it goes on forever, endless boring conversation of the female character telling the male character how awful he is. It's the only thing that happens for pages and pages. Every female protagonist in every one of her books is essentially this same character, and it's not someone who is likeable. Can I make it to the end of this? I doubt it.
