Features & Highlights

  • Tory and the rest of the Virals are put to the ultimate test when they find a geocache containing an ornate puzzle box. Shelton decodes the cipher inside, only to find more tantalizing clues left by "The Gamemaster." A second, greater geocache is within reach—if the Virals are up to the challenge. But the hunt takes a dark turn when Tory locates the other box—it contains a fake bomb, along with a sinister proposal from The Gamemaster. Now, the real game has begun: another bomb is out there—a real one—and the clock is ticking.

Who doesn't dream of getting superpowers?

I read the whole series first and loved, them. Then I got my kids hooked on Virals by reading it aloud to them, and now they are tearing through the series on their own. I'd say it is best aimed at early teenage girls. But my boys (ages 8 and 10) are devouring the books. They love the supernatural part... what kid doesn't dream of suddenly getting super powers? I think my boys just ignore the boy-girl drama and still seem a bit bewildered by other aspects of teen angst (I had to explain to them them the concepts of debutantes and cotillion, and also what it means to be a scholarship kid at a hoity-toity private school.) I think Virals was the best book for the kids that age, with each subsequent book being slightly more mature and a little less interesting to them as the characters age and become less relatable to my pre-teens.

great series

Kathy Reichs and her son, Christopher, have crafted a fun, engaging, and exciting series that mixes crime fiction with the supernatural. The 'Virals' books are aimed at Young Adult readers but that should not scare away older adults who are fans of the authors and/or the subject matter. Each book is good in its own right but it is best to read the whole series to truly enjoy the story.
