Description

Review “Boynton is back with another winner. Her latest board book is all about dinosaurs. Readers are immediately told the dinosaur dance is beginning on the opening page. Each spread that follows involves rhyming couplets about dancing dinosaurs. Proper names, such as triceratops, velociraptor, and iguanodon, are used to identify each unique dinosaur. Movement possibilities are endless with the text, and this will be a great addition to storytime shelves.” ― School Library Journal “As her fans know, Boynton has a sly wit that respects the intelligence of her young fans and amuses the adults asked to ‘read it again.’ In this book she introduces nine dinosaurs, each of which dances in a way that seems totally appropriate for that particular species… This will have readers putting on their dancing shoes to do the ‘cha cha cha’ with their dino-babies.” ― Kirkus Reviews About the Author Sandra Boynton is a popular American cartoonist, children’s author, songwriter, producer, and director. Since 1974, Boynton has written and illustrated over seventy-five children’s books and seven general audience books, including five New York Times bestsellers. More than 85 million of her books have been sold, “mostly to friends and family,” she says. She has also written (with Michael Ford) and produced six albums of renegade children’s music. Three of her six albums have been certified Gold (over 500,000 copies sold) and Philadelphia Chickens , nominated for a Grammy, has been certified Platinum (over 1 million copies sold). Boynton has also directed twelve music videos of her songs, including the award-winning “One Shoe Blues” starring B.B. King, “Alligator Stroll” starring Josh Turner, and “Tyrannosaurus Funk” (animated) sung by Samuel L. Jackson. She lives in rural New England, and her studio is in a barn with perhaps the only hippopotamus weathervane in America.

Boynton’s style is unique, and not for everyone. Try at library before buying

You’ll either love it or hate it. I’ve heard numerous people say how much they love Boynton’s childrens books. I just don’t get it. There is no plot and most of the words are silly/made up. I prefer stories that have a beginning, middle, + end and use real words. Further, the book ends abruptly. Suffice to say, this is my 5th Boynton book (others given as gifts) and it’s no better than the rest. Don’t let the dinosaurs convince you that this one is any different - there are better books for your little one.

Great addition to a childs library

Adorable illustrations and a fun read with children. Really liked seeing different dinosaur names but could be challenging for a child trying to read the book. I bought this book for my twin nephews, so it was a pleasant surprise to see they had included twins in the book. We are a big fan of Sandra Boynton and this book was another hit!

Cute sound effects babies love to hear!

It's always hit or miss with the Boynton books with my 7 month old daughter. She loves ones that have lots of sound effects and/or animal sounds - Moo Baa La La La is her absolute favorite - but often you can't preview much of the book on Amazon to see whether it has a lot of funny noises and rhymes so it becomes trial and error. Dinosaur Dance was luckily a hit! Not as big a hit as Moo Baa La La La but maybe it will get there with time. Lots of funny sound effects you can make as dramatic as you'd like when you read to your child, and those are always the best. I also really like that Amazon let you have a pretty in-depth preview of this particular book which they usually don't.

Only let's dad read this too him

Usually our son prefers mama to read other books to him but something about this book makes it so that he refuses to let me read it to him even with funny voices. Lol I guess dada is more fun than mama with this particular book. I don't even try to read this one anymore to my 1.5 year old. His dad does dance around the room with him while reading this book which I don't do. I think the pictures are cute and my son is quickly learning to love dinosaurs. Spine was a bit damaged upon arrival but it wasn't a gift so not worth replacing since I know my son is rough with his books.

2 year old loves it

Preordered and just got earlier this week in the mail. I figured my 2 year old daughter would love because she loves dinosaurs and dancing around (and pretty much any book by this author). I had to read this book no less than 100 times as she danced around the living room. Unfortunately my dog chewed up copy #1 after owning for only one day. Normally I'd cut my losses but she loved it so much I ordered another copy. Cute book!

Good filler books

Please don't hate me for saying this, but I think of Boynton's books as being little more than fillers in my toddler's library. They don't hold a candle to Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Eric Hill, Anna Dewdney, etc. And she churns out books like there's no tomorrow.
I honestly don't know why she's so popular. I have a rather large kids book collection, and there are much better options out there. But I can't pass up the insanely cheap price on Amazon for her books!!! This one was less than $3 brand new! I guess you get what you pay for.
It's not a bad book. The art is just ok. The storytelling is bland. There is no moral. It's just a nice, cheap way to build up my toddler's book library.

Boring!

This book is boring, there's only a couple of words per page. It seems like Sandra is running out of ideas.

Don't buy this one....

I am a big fan of her books but this is one if the worst Sandra Boynton kids books I've ever read. There is no flow, the story makes no sense and it doesn't even interested my son who is 23 months. I wouldn't recommend this one. I'd give it no stara but that wasn't an option.

Love the little board book

We have several Boynton books. They are simple rhymes with cute, simple illustrations. My son has become a lover of dinosaurs, so we added this to our book collection. Very catchy, similar to Barnyard Dance, but simpler. Love the little board book. I can recite this from memory as my son pages through it in the car.
