Every little girl in the world should read this book!

I can't think of a better time for this book. The message is clear - girls can do and be anything they want. I was especially impressed by the illustrations - every race and ethnicity was represented in the characters, which makes the book appropriate for every girl who can see herself in these career clothes. And there was such a playful, joyful quality about the drawings. I have already purchased this book for a grandchild and expect to buy several more for all the little girls I know. This sure beats the choice I had growing up - nurse or teacher. I would have loved to don that astronaut's suit.

Wish I had this book when I was a young girl!

What does it mean to “Dress Like a Girl”? In this lovely new book by Patricia Toht (illustrated by Lorian Tu-Dean), dressing up means following your passion, your creativity, and your heart. Framed by a joyful sleepover party, the girls in this book dress up like an astronaut, doctor, firefighter, construction worker, diver and more! Young readers will feel inspired and empowered as Toht writes, “Make your own rules in this big wide world, Set your sights high...and dress like a girl!”

Dress like a girl...in pants if you want

I LOVED this book! I love how it incorporated fashion tips we’ve all been raised on and empowering girls to be whatever they want: scientist, athlete, musician or conservationist 💕 So happy to add this book to my daughter's bedtime story collection.

Wearing Many Hats

A bunch of little girls gather for a sleepover and play at many different roles. With rhyming lines accompanying the images and advice that sometimes looks like it came out of a fashion magazine, we get interesting variations on what it means to don girly attire.

Of course, women have been taking on men’s roles for decades. This book merely reiterates the notion that girls can do anything as long as they’re allowed to aspire to their dreams. With its feminist message cutely packaged for juvenile consumption, this is a charming picture book for children but one aimed especially for little girls. I highly recommend it.

Five stars for Dress Like a Girl!

Patricia Toht has a delightful new take on rules of fashion that girls should follow. Each spread depicts girls "adhering" to these rules in their own, imaginative ways. No dream is too big. Lorian Tu-Dean's illustrations are colorful and engaging. Makes for a fun read aloud!

A positive, welcoming concept!

I can see this being a big hit with parents and teachers wanting to stress the importance to girls of having fun whether dressing up as someone else, or being yourself. I hope it's read to boys too, as the message transcends genders. It's a positive, welcoming concept with very fun illustrations that will no doubt inspire some great dress up playdates!
