Description

Orson Scott Card is best known for his science fiction novel Ender's Game and it's many sequels that expand the Ender Universe into the far future and the near past. Those books are organized into the Ender Quintet, the five books that chronicle the life of Ender Wiggin; the Shadow Series, that follows on the novel Ender's Shadow and are set on Earth; and the Formic Wars series, written with co-author Aaron Johnston, that tells of the terrible first contact between humans and the alien "Buggers". Card has been a working writer since the 1970s. Beginning with dozens of plays and musical comedies produced in the 1960s and 70s, Card's first published fiction appeared in 1977 -- the short story "Gert Fram" in the July issue of The Ensign , and the novelet version of "Ender's Game" in the August issue of Analog . The novel-length version of Ender's Game , published in 1984 and continuously in print since then, became the basis of the 2013 film, starring Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld, Viola Davis, and Abigail Breslin. Card was born in Washington state, and grew up in California, Arizona, and Utah. He served a mission for the LDS Church in Brazil in the early 1970s. Besides his writing, he runs occasional writers' workshops and directs plays. He frequently teaches writing and literature courses at Southern Virginia University. He is the author of many sf and fantasy novels, including the American frontier fantasy series "The Tales of Alvin Maker" (beginning with Seventh Son ), There are also stand-alone science fiction and fantasy novels like Pastwatch and Hart's Hope . He has collaborated with his daughter Emily Card on a manga series, Laddertop. He has also written contemporary thrillers like Empire and historical novels like the monumental Saints and the religious novels Sarah and Rachel and Leah . Card's recent work includes the Mithermages books ( Lost Gate , Gate Thief ), contemporary magical fantasy for readers both young and old. Card lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, with his wife, Kristine Allen Card, He and Kristine are the parents of five children and several grandchildren.

A classic that should be read by all!

This is by far my favorite book and it has a nice resting place on my bookshelf. The spine is worn and shows the stress of being read a dozen times over the past 10 years.

I was introduced to this book by a college professor shortly after I started college. He presented the argument that it is a book that will show you how to think and interpret things differently.

Indeed that's what this book does. This book is about a time where the planet is under immense danger from an alien species that is trying to eradicate human kind. A young man, Ender, is tapped to go to a leadership school to train to become the next commander of the fleet. The whole book leads to the final attack on the alien species, can this young man.... more a child, can this child save the human race?

The book explores the emotions of this child genius as he compares himself to his classmates, his longing for his sister who is out of reach, the pains of being labeled an outcast in the leadership school he is in as his performances rivals that of the upperclassmen, the stress of the realization that he is killing, and the camaraderie that eventually comes with his squad-mates.

This book is by far one of the most entertaining and yet thought provoking books I have ever read. I recommend it to everyone I meet and I hope you will enjoy it. I'd also encourage you to read the books that follow this one as they are equally thought provoking and have you searching for the meaning of everything.

Question, question, question, your thoughts and beliefs after this book.

Definitely read this book before the movie comes out in November of 2013.

Fantastic novel

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is a classic science fiction novel that is a must-read for any fan of the genre. The book follows the story of Ender Wiggin, a brilliant young strategist who is recruited to join a military academy in space. Card's writing style is engaging and immersive, and the characters are well-developed and relatable. The book tackles complex themes such as leadership, identity, and the nature of war, making it a thought-provoking read. I particularly enjoyed the action-packed battle sequences and the twists and turns of the plot. Overall, I highly recommend Ender's Game to anyone looking for a thrilling and intellectually stimulating read that will keep them on the edge of their seat from beginning to end.

Exactly what was expected.

Shipping was as expected, as well as the book quality. Couple bent pages from front to about page 15. No big deal as I was buying used. Still good condition to read! Happy customer.

GREAT book....but series is lacking

A VERY WELL written story...great characters and great story line, despite the technology mostly outdated. My only disappointment, and why i didn't give 5 stars...I really wanted to continue reading the series, however...much like RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA by A. C. Clarke, the successive books move away from Ender and his great abilities, and more towards religion, politics and culture. Some may like that, but they do not do justice to the original story.

Good story, could have been better

Decent story. Had some pleasant twists. Felt the background/history was not explored enough. Also, the relationship between Ender and Peter doesn't really go anywhere.

I loved this book!

Ender's Game is a great book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes futuristic, sci-fi, or action books. It is about a young boy named Andrew "Ender" Wiggin who lives in a world that is at war with an alien species called buggers, and promising kids are taken to Battle School to train to become a soldier. It has a serious tone, and I even cried in a few parts of it, but overall, a very intriguing book that keeps the story going nicely, and I really enjoyed it.
