Features & Highlights

  • The dog days of summer have just begun, and Melanie Travis is looking forward to savoring each lazy afternoon. And where better to enjoy herself than at her Aunt Peg's Fourth of July barbecue? It sounds ideal, until an uninvited guest proves that even the laziest dog day of the year can suddenly turn vicious.
  • Melanie knew someone should have kept Barry Turk on a short leash. The star poodle handler and ladykiller had a habit of chicanery that bred contempt in the dog show circuit, particularly among its female members. But when Barry is shot dead in his own driveway, even Melanie is stunned at how unsporting the competition can get. Soon Melanie is investigating a litter of suspects which includes Barry's ruthless young assistant, her hot-tempered boyfriend, A Blue Ribbon judge with a grudge, and even Barry's last lover, Alicia. Now, as Melanie digs for clues deep under Connecticut's well-groomed surface, she finds herself sniffing around in the killer's own backyard, and counts herself lucky to have the animal instincts to keep herself alive.

I have all her poodle mysteries and I enjoy them all

I have all her poodle mysteries and I enjoy them all. We have had standard poodles and the dogs she describes are just like our poodles. Laurien writes well and the stories are fun. They are relaxing and intriguing!

Love this series so far. I've been told it gets more sexually explicit later; may stop reading then.

Cute story

This series is a light mystery. There is a continual story line about the main character with a mystery in each book. I have enjoyed learning about dog shows along the series as well. Not a heavy, edge of the seat kind of book at all. Just a light read with humor and a nice series.

She does give excellent info about dog shows

After ordering 8 of Laurien Berenson books, found I didn't care for her writing....She does give excellent info about dog shows, but found her to constantly repeating herself, just using different phases/wording.. TO WORDY !! I donated all 8 of the books I had bought to our local library after struggling thru 2 of her books. I'll pass next time around...
