A great book for kids
I recently read the Children's book, Hermie, a Common Caterpillar by Max Lucado. I received a reviewer's copy through booksneeze. Hermie is a book about a simple catepillar who longs to be something extra special. He asks God why he isn't as amazing as some of the other bugs in the garden. God tells Hermie that He's not finished with him yet wand reminds him to be patient while He finishes working out His plan. God shows Hermie just how special he is when he is transformed into a beautiful butterfly at the end of the book. The theme of the book is that each person is created by God in a unique and special way; we just need to be patient and wait to see what God has in store for us. I read this book to my 5, 4, and 2 year olds and they LOVED it! The illustrations are wonderful and the message is perfect for helping small children to realize that they are special because they are different. Each child is a precious gift from God. I would recommend this book for every home and church library. It would also make a great gift for the little one(s) in your life!

Hermie's Story for Kids to Read Themselves
I just finished reading Max Lucado's newly revised version of "Hermie, a Common Caterpillar." It's been rewritten as a Level 2 Reader for children who are learning to read for themselves, using simple and familiar words and lots of repetition. As children work their way through this story, they'll learn to read while learning God loves them just the way they are, and He isn't finished with them yet!
Hermie and his friend, Wormie, are common caterpillars. No spots, stripes or distinctive markings for them. When they see other caterpillars, they talk to God about their commonness. He assures them He loves them just the way they are and isn't finished with them yet. They are content for a while, then they see a strong ant and talk to God again. He reassures them of His love once more. This repeats with a snail's house and a ladybug's spots. The pictures tell part of the story that words don't showing Hermie and Wormie trying to wiggle into shells like a snail and painting spots all over themselves.
In the end, God has a big surprise for Hermie which gives hope to Wormie. God loves them just the way they are, and He isn't finished with them yet!
Thomas Nelson publishers sent me a complimentary eCopy of this book for my review. I'm happy to recommend it.

Hermie a Common Caterpillar by Max Lucado
I guess as a mum, I love to watch out for great children's books for my 3 year old, and this one is precious. This is my son's 2nd Hermie book, and he now loves this little caterpillar. Hermie A Common Caterpillar tells the simple story of Hermie and his fellow caterpillar friend Wormie. As they wander amongst the forest, they came upon many other insects, such as the butterfly, the snail, the ant and the lady bug, and everytime Hermie and Wormie will be awed by the other insect's strength, beauty and uniqueness, and they will start questioning God about their own commonness. God always answered them the same way, that He is not finished with them yet. The story ended beautifully, with Hermie turning into a beautiful butterfly and finally understanding what God meant.
This simple story is not just character building for kids, but even for the parents that read it together with their kids. Most of the time, it's us adults who question God about our abilities, our looks, our commonness, and the story of Hermie really reminded me that I too don't have to worry about all that, coz God is still moulding me to become the best in His eyes, He ain't finished with me yet.

Cute Children's Book About God's Purpose
"Hermie, a Common Caterpilllar" by, Max Lucado is about two caterpillar friends, Hermie and Wormie, who embark on an adventure and see many different types of insects that God made. It makes them wonder why God made them the way that they are and why he made them so common. They want to know why they don't have a house like a snail, strength of an ant, wings like a butterfly, different colors like other caterpillars, or spots like a ladybug. Every time they start to doubt God's response to them is always that he loves them very much and that he is not finished with them yet. As Hermie begins to get very tired he is wrapped into a cocoon and emerges as a very unique and beautiful butterfly. He now finally sees God's purpose for him and finds his friend, Wormie, to explain that God is not finished with him yet.
This is a cute book about how God has a purpose for each and every person even though we sometimes can't see it at the time. It addresses our human concern of feeling ordinary and not special. Preschool and elementary aged students will find this book to be fun, entertaining, and educational of God's purpose for their lives. This book has wonderful colorful pictures and a good message. I would recommend this to any child that is having a difficulty with feeling ordinary or any other young child. I received a free e-book copy of this book for an honest review through the publishers at BookSneeze.com.

Hermie's Back! Hermie a Common Caterpillar
This is the third Max Lucado review I've done. The first was One Hand, Two Hands and the second was Hermie and Friends - A Bug Collection DVD set. We really enjoyed both of them and [[ASIN:1400317479 Hermie, a Common Caterpillar (Max Lucado's Hermie & Friends)]] was no exception. I really appreciate the lessons that Max Lucado's books teach children.
Hermie a Common Caterpillar is an adorable book, illustrated by Daniel Howarth. The pictures are vividly colored and captivating. In fact my daughter found the pictures almost as entertaining as the story.
The story is about a very plain caterpillar, Hermie, who can't understand why he is so ordinary when there are so many beautiful bugs in the world. Hermie is in for a surprise when he finds out that God has been saving something very special for him. My daughter was on the edge of her seat waiting to find out what that surprise was. I'm sure as an adult you can guess that Hermie turns into a magnificent butterfly proving that, just like everyone else, he is special in his own way.
This book is actually a Level Two Reader so it's aimed at ages 5-8 but the story could be appreciated as young as age three.

Great story for kids AND adults
I was not disappointed. The book is about Hermie, a caterpillar and his friend Wormie who seem ugly and inadequate when compared to their other worm friends and to animals like the butterfly, ants, snails, and ladybugs. Each time the worms are discouraged, they pray to God, and God responds "Don't worry. I love you both. And I'm not finished with you yet." The book concludes with Hermie taking a very long nap in his cocoon and emerging as a beautiful butterfly, and Hermie encouraging his friend that God is not finished with him as Wormie falls asleep in his own cocoon.
Even as an adult, I thought the book was an excellent reminder that the circumstances that we are currently experiencing are not all there is to life. God is using those circumstances to mold me and shape me. It was also a good reminder that having godly friends can help you through the hard times to focus on God and His truths. I am currently going through another study called the Truth Project, and he compares his spiritual breakthroughs to going into the cocoon. It was a perfect reminder that we will not stay in the cocoon forever. God is not finished with me yet!

How can you not love Hermie?
How can anyone not love Hermie and Friends?
My kids enjoyed watching Hermie movies growing up and I enjoyed watching, right along with them too. Very loveable stories that are always reminding kids of just how unique we all are. God made each one of us different and each one of us special.
The Little Hermie "Read 2 Me" books are ideal for ages 1-5 and are the perfect size for little hands to hold. All of the books have sweet pictures that will keep kids flipping pages to read more.
So glad that another wave of kids will get to know Hermie, his friends, and all the wonderful values in these stories.
Thomas Nelson sent me the above books for review purposes. It will allow me to keep the books. I have no other connection to and have received no other compensation from Thomas Nelson.

Don't feel common - wait for your turn to be special!
I love the books that help our children know that they're not alone. They're not alone when they feel 'less' than everyone else. They are not alone when they talk to God. And, they are not alone when they feel sad.
This is one of those books that will help them to grow and understand. Not only are the words appropriate for a first or second grade reader but the emotions are reflective of them, as well.
Grab this for that self-conscience kid on your Christmas list that needs to feel like they are not common
