Description

"Debut author Erikson blazes onto the urban fantasy scene with a cornucopia of deceptively simple worldbuilding and meticulously plotted storytelling...xa0This is an intricate mystery laced with humor and lore. Precise characterization, and an equal focus on personal evolution and the everyday fantastic, lend the novel a satisfying gravitas. Fans of Jim Butcher and Craig Schaefer will gobble up this trilogy launch and eagerly await more." - Publishers Weekly (Starred Review) Looks like I've got a new author to add to my personal pantheon of fantasy favourites! - Bookshine and Readbows Hero Forged is one of those just-another-chapter books, and if you do manage to put it down, you want to get back to it as soon as you can. It's action-packed, creatively imagined, and one of the most genuinely funny books I've read in ages, with real heart lightly hidden beneath the humour. - Fantasy Book Review Josh Erikson spent twelve years in the hospitality industry before life gave him a swift enough kick to propel him toward writing. Now he splits his days between thinking up stories for the awesome people reading this and spending time with his wife and two young children. He lives in rural Nebraska, does not own any livestock, and likes corn just fine, thank you very much.

Features & Highlights

  • Gabe thought he had covered all the angles, but it’s tough to plan a contingency for accidentally trapping an evil god in your brain.
  • Gabriel Delling might call himself a professional con artist, but when walking superstitions start trying to bite his face off, his charm is shockingly unhelpful. It turns out living nightmares almost never appreciate a good joke. Together with a succubus who insists on constantly saving his life, Gabe desperately tries to survive a new reality that suddenly features demons, legends, and a giant locust named Dale—all of whom pretty much hate his guts.
  • And when an ancient horror comes hunting for the spirit locked in his head, Gabe finds himself faced with the excruciating choice between death...or becoming some kind of
  • freaking
  • hero.
  • Hero Forged
  • is the first book in the new series,
  • Ethereal Earth
  • , a modern fantasy adventure that challenges the natures of myth, humanity, and what it means to be the good guy.

Incredibly intelligent author, super witty and compelling story/characters. Buy this book.

I cannot stop thinking about these characters, and this story since reading it! It is super witty, and intelligently composed. I also love the interwoven story within a story, with excerpts of the main character's autobiography preceeding almost every chapter. Definitely a unique read, and well worth it! Also, aptly titled...very intelligent author.

Joseph Campbell + Neil Gaiman + Pishtacos

If Neil Gaiman and Joseph Campbell had a baby, and that baby wrote a novel, that would be one incredibly gifted baby.

Sinks It's Hooks Into You From The Beginning

Had me hooked from the Prologue on page 5. Started reading 2 days ago, but had to stop after Chapter 9 to process what I had just read. Almost finished it yesterday, but FINALLY got to THE END this evening. Oh my gosh! I LOVE what I just read!!! It was nothing that I had expected (I didn't know WHAT to expect!), but it captured me & drew me in. I could "see" the characters and "feel" the environment they were in. So incredibly well written!
I really enjoyed the excerpts from the beginning of each chapter of Gabe's book that he wrote about his book - "CONscience". It told us the story about what Gabe DID/WAS, and we were allowed to see what happened to him after "CONscience".. Fascinating!
I've read a LOT of books in the past 30 years, and this one was way more excellent than I expected. If there's a part 2, or if there's another book coming soon, I want it! ASAP!!!

Love Butcher and Abercrombie

Got this for my husband as an anniversary gift. He loves Jim Butcher and Joe Abercrombie. And he loved Josh Erikson's 'hero forged'! Gotta get the rest for his Christmas stocking :3

Seriously, read this

This is really good at building a world that interacts with the one we already know, and making you feel like there is a world of possibility outside of your comfort level. A great read, and just as good on audiobook.

Enjoyable!

Excellent read! I enjoyed the character development, especially seeing the serious side of Gabe. My favorite quote from the entire book comes from one of these sections. Seeing little bits of your own life written on the page makes it more real. Being from the Midwest it was fun to read a book taking place in a city I’m familiar with. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see where the story leads.

Great Urban Fantasy

This is my first urban fantasy so I was not sure if I would like it but I was plesently surprised it was great.
I bought this at audible so I listened to it twice to make sure I caught it all.
This is also the first book I listened to that was performed by the author and I think Josh nailed all the characters.
I thought Heather was great and she really helped Gabe throughout the entire book.
I am listening to the second book as I write this review.

Try it. You might really like it.

I will admit it. I bought this book because it was written by my little cousin. I love to read. Usually, I don't even like Fantasy. But, I read it because I bought it. And, I did enjoy it. It was funny, interesting and often complex. I had to remind myself that the complexities were made up!! I liked it well enough to buy a copy for my local library. In honor of "Eriksons Everywhere."

Fun read!

I picked this book up at random as the cover art and title were enticing. It was a fun, fast-paced story that was full of enjoyable humor and an interesting plot. Give it a read!
