Description

"Enjoyed this read! If you're a lover of romantasy, this is definitely up your alley. One of my favorite aspects in the fantasy world is fated mates and we see this here! Loved the way the author put together the courts and the magical system. The lore in this story was one of my favorites, we have the high lords of the fae courts and all the magic that entails it. The characters definitely had a grab on me, Davyna was a badass heroine. She was forced into servitude for the queen, which Davyna was set in leaving and seeking a better life. I loved the found family/ adoptive aspect. The author did a great job depicting the bond between the individuals." Vanessa " Just wow! Fay did such an amazing job on her debut novel! If you read the first edition, you will want to read this upgraded second edition, the new edits are perfection! I loved the in depth details of the Salt Court and you get a back story to Kadeyan and one of his alliances and how they came to be. The world building was great, I was able to picture this world in my head, very intriguing! The character development was in point in this story. And look at that new cover!! FMC Davyna is just a character that you're always going to root for because she's been through so much in her life, past and present. Davyna is determined, a badass, takes shit from no one! She will do anything to save her loved ones. MMC Kadeyan gives "villains do it better" vibes for sure! He's mysterious, loyal to his allies, and an alphahole through and through. He does have a softness to him that unravels as the story goes on. Their banter is everything and I love a book that can make me laugh out loud, and I was here for the side characters they were fun and I can't wait to see more of them later on! The tension between the two is THICK! The vibe is Cinderella meets Klaus/ Damon and that alone had me hooked! Lol This is the first book of The Dark Curse series and I cannot wait to see what is in store for Davyna and the crew next because that cliffhanger was chef's kiss but also omg!! Check the trigger warnings before reading" Sarah C

One of the best books I have read, except for "dearest"

I loved the pronunciation guide in the front of the book and the map, I love seeing where I am and how to pronounce words from other languages and fiction:) I liked the mc of Davyna. I understood her relationship with Drystan being that he is a lord and she is not would be very tumultuous to say the least. But then Lord Alastair comes along... and he is so dreamy. I love the relationship between her and Kadeyan. I though there were some parts that were a little slow for the book. If you are a fan of ACOTAR you will probably like this book like I did. I liked the beginning of the book where it started out like Cinderella, unique way to start the story! Also steam is at a 4 for me in this book, super steamy!🔥 One thing though, too much "dearest" talk all the time, this was killing me the whole story, maybe mention another words other then "dearest".

Good for smut

I received an ARC of this book.

I really enjoyed this book. There were a few times were the story seemed to move a little too fast. I would have enjoyed more exploration of all of the courts. And I never really understood the magic system. Each faction has a different magic, but yet all of them can do some things like portaling? And she can just access all the magic without actually doing anything.

The relationship was the best part. It was so hot. I was falling for the villain before the MC. I also really liked the different fairytale vibes. The strongest influence was Cinderella, but I also felt some hints of beauty and the beast and red riding hood in parts.

Overall enjoyable, but I would only reread for the smut.

Fun Spicy Fantasy

3.75/5 ⭐️
🔥HBTE got a massive makeover recently! New STUNNING cover, an extra 25k words, and updated scenes alongside a new interior!🔥

I really enjoyed the romance and world-building in this story. I felt the tension between our trio of characters from the very start and it was really fun to watch them grow, open up to each other, and reveal secrets and betrayals along the way. The world-building was set up in an easy to digest way and I loved the high tension that was just simmering on the outskirts the entire time. I’m really intrigued to see where this story goes in later installments! The secondary characters were all interesting in their own way, and I absolutely adored the family and friendships that Davyna forms throughout her journey. I’d love to know more about Levanna and Nesrin! I especially enjoyed the relationship between Davyna and her sister Evren.

Dy is definitely one of my new favorite FMC. She’s a strong, independent, powerful and stubborn (in the best way?) character who really learns how to take what she wants from the world and accepts that she deserves happiness, too. Alastair and Kadeyan are both extremely complex individuals with their own secrets to carry, and I liked watching each of them revealing their true selves to Dy.

This was almost a 4 star read for me but didn’t quite make it there because it took me about halfway through to truly feel invested in the story and the characters. It all felt familiar and inspired by other lore, (which is great and I love that!) but at times it was a bit too much for me to separate. The second half of the book really drew me in and I absolutely loved it. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for the next book in this series! 💥

“Maybe we all end up the villain…”

“Maybe we are all villains in the end, at least to someone..I guess it depends on who is telling the story.”

This Story is absolutely phenomenal. It’s an extremely fast paced high fantasy story , filled with secrets, magic, face courts, curses, betrayal onto of betrayal , mystery , action, morally grey characters ,dark villains and so much sexual tension that’s almost painful.

Fay writing style is absolutely fantastic, she evoked every emotion out of me during this book. I cried, yelled screamed and felt everything she wanted me to feel. Her writing is raw and tragic and it connected with me so much.

Davyna is such a strong WMC with a smart ass mouth and her inner monologue is by far the best thing in this entire book. To be honest, everyones inner monologue is what makes this book stand out so much. It adds so much complexity to the storyline that it blurs the lines on who you think is good or bad until the writer is ready for you to find out in multiple betrayals. There are so many groundbreaking moments that will rip your heart from your chest and it only flues the inner fire within the characters

“When I’m dead and gone, I hope my face haunts you. I hope it wakes you up from every nightmare, reminding you that there is no peace, for as long as you live.”

Kadeyan is by far my favorite sexy shadow daddy to date. And I promise you’ll love top hate him ;)

There are Cinderella mixed with ACOTAR vibes scattered throughout the story but it still manages to be it’s very own thing. Its easily a top fantasy favorite of mine to date. Get ready for a wild ride and I highly recommend this book to everyone.

50 shades meets a court of mist & fury

📚ARC REVIEW📚
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

QOTD: “If you are a God, then I am your angel. And if you are the Devil, then I am your demon.”

Synopsis: Davyna just wants to find her family, she wants to know where she comes from and finally feel wanted. Unbeknownst to her, the journey to find who she truly wants lands her in the presence of Fae, and possibly the Devil. Through some spice, some magic, and a journey for her place in the world— Davyna uncovers not only the truth but who she’s truly meant to be aw well.

I received an advanced copy of the 2nd edition of Hidden Beneath The Embers & below is my honest review:
Lemme introduce you to Hidden Beneath The Embers— or what I refer to as 50 shades of grey meets A Court of Mist & Fury. I thought I knew spice until I read this book BUT the 🌶️ level of this book is like a 10 out of 5! I cannot wait to read book 2, considering that insane cliff hanger Fay Bec left us with. The amount of twists this book had actual left me procrastinating on finishing because I just wasn’t ready for it to end. I’ve already recommended this to a couple of my friends, this book & that bonus chapter left me 🥵 ! I can only imagine what’ll happen in book 2– Seeking!

For fans of ACOTAR

3.5 stars beginning was a Cinderella retelling and the remaining 75% was very much reminiscent of ACOTAR.

I enjoyed the characters despite Davyna’s tears every other page. Overall story line was enjoyable. I liked the different court systems. It wasn’t a “typical” Fae story in that aspect which was a refreshing take. I liked the balance of spice to story. I didn’t think it was heavy handed and definitely didn’t overpower the storyline.

All in all an enjoyable read. BUT WTF IS THAT ENDING. 😂 where is the sequel??????????????
