a fun historical western romance

Hitched to the Gunslinger is a historical western romance by Michelle McLean, and the first book in her Gunslinger series. The ebook version is 330 pages. I listened to the audiobook, which clocks in at nine hours and is narrated by Holly Adams. We follow our two main characters with third-person points-of-view.

Gray "Quick Shot" Woodson is well-known as the fastest gun in the land, but he's ready to retire as he's tired of his nomadic lifestyle--and the fact that so many people keep trying to kill him. His opinionated horse brings him into a small town named Desolation, and Gray figures this could be a good spot for many naptimes in retirement. But within a few minutes of entering town, he sees a jerk threatening a woman named Mercy, who ad libs that Gray is her fiancée. He goes along with it, even though she's a handful, especially when she "borrows" his guns to help protect her land by herself.

I really liked a bunch of the side characters in this book! Especially the town mayor, who is also the matron of the parlor in town. I'm hopeful that later books in this series will provide more insight into all the townsfolk.

This is my first book by the author, and I did enjoy her prose and humor. I'll definitely check out some of her other books. The second book in this series, The Gunslinger's Guide to Avoiding Matrimony came out on Tuesday, July 26th and I had the ARC to dig into!

Tropes in this book include: cowboys, gunslingers, strangers to lovers, strong women

CW: guns, murder

Wild West romance- lots of steam and laughter!!

Wild West romance that was light and fluffy like a giant sweet cotton candy and brought me just as much happiness!!! I loved the humor and laughed out loud at Mercy and Grey and the fun that their relationship gets into!! This book was perfect timing for me- an easy romp that made me laugh and sigh in pleasure at the happy ever after!!

In this book, Grey Woodson also know as Quick Shot is a infamous gunslinger who has decided to retire. He is searching through the Wild West for a quiet town where his reputation has not preceded him! He wants peace and quiet with no more need for his quick draw skills. He is looking for naps, good food and most important- to live up to his resolution not to kill anyone. But Grey’s horse is as stubborn as he is and is focused on dragging him to an apple orchard and right into the midst of all kinds of trouble!

Mercy Douglas is a feisty woman who is determined to run her life on her own. She is fighting off the advances of a neighbor who is interested in her land and will use any means necessary to take it. When Grey and his horse wander into the midst of the most aggressive attack yet, Mercy offers Grey food and lodging to pretend to be her fiancé.

The sparks fly between the two as Grey appears lazy and uninterested in getting involved and Mercy doggedly tries to get Grey to train her in gun usage.
Add Jason Sunshine, a wannabe gunslinger that tracked Grey down to try to learn his trade secrets, a town full of interesting characters, and you have a recipe for lots of laughter! This romance has tons of awesome banter between Mercy and Grey and quite a bit of steam!!

Well worth the read and I’m so grateful that NetGalley, Michelle McLean, and Entangled allowed me an early copy of the book!! I loved reading this and am happy to share my opinions!!

Love in the Old West

Hitched to the Gunslinger by Michelle McLean, book one in The Bereford Adventures series is a wonderful read that I could not put down. This historical romance takes place in the old west and is filled with adventure, suspense, a fake engagement and a town filled with quirky, adorable characters.

Gray "Quick Shot" Woodson is a gunslinger; making a name for himself by being a very fast shot. He’s tired of the nomadic life and people always trying to kill him, he’s decided to retire from being a gunslinger. Trying to find an out-of-the-way place where he can live out his days in peace, staring at the sunset and taking lots of naps. He accidently stumbles into Desolation, Colorado, and Mercy, when his life takes a totally unexpected turn. Gray soon finds himself embroiled in a town vendetta and engaged to a bossy, mouthy stranger he can’t keep his eyes off. Mercy is at her wit’s end, fighting to save her livelihood and legacy when Gray stumbles onto her path. Gray is everything Mercy has been searching for. Gray, as expected, is an untrusting loner who finds himself suddenly surrounded by a lively and animated wife as well as meddling, colorful townspeople. Gray and Mercy are total opposites, yet they make an excellent match. Their passionate connection is laced with danger and levity. I fell in love with both Gray and Mercy, they were a perfect combination; as well as falling for the entire town.

Ms. McLean wrote a story filled with adventure, suspense, and romance that should not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with humorous escapades, intrigue, sizzling chemistry and a town filled with charming yet quirky secondary characters giving Gray and Mercy a chance to have a loving marriage and long future together. I highly recommend Hitched to the Gunslinger to other readers.

First of all, I'm not a huge fan of historical romances. Um...this book blew that thought completely up for me. This book was fabulous. Not only was it hilarious, but the story line was unique and highly entertaining. I loved every second of this story. The townspeople reminded me of people from the town of Mayberry or Little House on the Prairie. There's Doc, the Preacher, the town drunk, Madam Mayor and more. Of course the hero and heroine were the best part of the story. Mercy was tough and so capable. I love strong, feisty heroines. Gray was easy going and so ready for retirement from being a gunslinger. He had no clue what was about to hit him when he met Mercy. This book is just plain fun. This is my first book by this author. I immediately checked out her other books. I hope she writes more like this one.

This hot, historical cowboy romance is unputdownable!

This was a very different read for me. It’s an historical cowboy romance, and I really loved it!

Gray is a gunslinger who has the reputation of being unstoppable, with a trail of dead bodies behind him to prove it. Turns out he “accidentally” got into it when he was defending himself. He learned to shoot as a child, and is quite skilled, but he is really tired of people trying to kill him just for the prestige of it.

Gray ends up in the little town of Desolation, where he meets Mercy. She offers him a place to sleep and meals if he will help her with one of her neighbors. It seems the man is trying every which way to get his hands on the property she just inherited when her father passed away. He tries proposing, threatening, offering money, but she doesn’t want to sell. Gray agrees to basically be her bodyguard, but when push comes to shove, Mercy blurts out that he is her fiancé, and the fake romance takes off.

Gray is a bit of a curmudgeon, and all he is really interested in is food and napping, but Mercy is a terrible cook and his naps keep getting interrupted. When he ends up shooting the gun out Mercy’s nemesis’s hand, the whole town is intrigued. But the sheriff is scared and takes off in the middle of the night. Gray is offered the position, which he finds hilarious as he’s always been on the wrong side of the law but eventually he takes it. And he soon learns what it means to be accepted, by a woman and a town.

Mercy and Gray marry, and he soon learns that caring about people may be dangerous to his health. Things come to a head with a shootout in the streets and of course, the happy ending. This was a really fun read, a hot romance, and I couldn’t put it down. Really looking forward to the next book in this series!
