Description

"What an absolutely mind blowing, flame throwing, steampunking adventure!! Lol I absolutely loved this book! Considering that the heroine is an eleven year old certified Idiot, I had my doubts. Talking cats? Wind up men, dragons, gourmet breakfast chef elephants, and unicorns? Not to mention an Uber advanced invisible world that exists solely to keep us safe? It all sounds so farfetched, and yet each step in the story is as logical and explainable as it could possibly be! Take an eleven year old girl named Wills Snap, mix in some good ole sci-fi, a dash of the mythical, a heaping load of comedic relief, with just a sprinkle of sass and you've got a story you just can't put down!!! I am so excited about the next book I just might have to steal the dragons time traveling machine and get an advanced copy for myself!" -T. Crum "Thoroughly engrossing story recommended for young sci-fi and fantasy fans who hold a prior attraction to books such as John Bellairs' House with a Clock in its Walls ." -D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review "Richard Due delights with the first installment in the young adult series of Idiot Genius novels . . . thrilling, and highly satisfying." -IndieReader see below see below

  • Hi. My name is Willa Snap. I used to be just like you! I went to school, I learned things (mostly), and in the summers, my cat and I spent our days trying to keep each other out of trouble. She probably had the harder job.But all that changed after my mother invented the pac-a-purse, an innocent-looking device capable of holding everything she needed: lipstick, wallet, car keys . . . car. Let’s just say it attracted the wrong kind of attention. Now we live in Grandeur, a hidden city filled with Idiot Geniuses like my mom, who can’t understand the danger of their own inventions. Grandeur isn’t like other cities. For starters, it’s overrun with
  • slightly
  • less dangerous versions of all the inventions that got people stuck here in the first place. And as if that wasn’t enough, yesterday a Clockwerk Boy told me my timeline was in danger. Now I have to figure out what he meant before my time runs out . . . only the Clockwerk Boy’s gone missing.
  • Perfect for fans of The Mysterious Benedict Society, Percy Jackson, Neil Gaiman, and the Artemis Fowl series, this action-packed adventure will take you to places you've never imagined, but always wanted to visit.
  • What fans are saying:
  • "There are plenty of books out there that I enjoy and find interesting, but rarely do I think while reading, ‘This is so much fun.’"
  • "I was hooked from the first paragraph."
  • "Willa Snap and the Clockwerk Boy is a gorgeously written book."
  • "Absolutely delightful read!"
  • "The story engages the imagination from the first page, and the writing is hilarious."
  • "Entertaining, engaging, fresh!"
  • "Very cool, need more right now."
  • "What an absolutely mind blowing, flame throwing, steampunking adventure!!"
  • "I would have adored it just as much at age twelve as I have enjoyed it now."
  • "I enjoyed the steady paced action that kept me turning pages until the end."
  • "We missed bed time plenty of times due to ‘just a few more pages!!’"
  • "Arcabascio's delightful illustrations are a real treat; there should be more clock punk cats in the world."
  • "Your passport is ready. Click purchase, and be prepared as the Black Fezzes start to circle."
  • "It was a great way to introduce my daughter to the world of steampunk that I love so much!"
  • "Amazing illustrations, even in the Kindle edition.”
  • "It's unusual to see such sci-fi depth and detail in a title directed to young adults, but this is precisely what makes Idiot Genius: Willa Snap and the Clockwerk Boy such an appealing production: the characterization is solid while its fantastic setting will intrigue ages well beyond its intended 9-12-year-old audience. Highly recommended for young adults seeking something compellingly different."

The most interesting and entertaining read I've read this year

Wow. This is the most interesting and entertaining read I've read this year (2020)! I don't normally read books by authors I don't know but I like steampunk so I decided to give this a shot - I was not disappointed. :) I won't give away any spoilers but I can promise you that this book contains: excitement, mystery, humor, pancakes, talking cats, and clockwork boys. Chapters are short sometimes but necessary per each subject addressed (nothing is more boring than long chapters that are long because they're trying to make the book thicker). This is a nice balance. I like that it's a story told by the perspective of an 11yr old girl. It's fun trying to figure out who is friend and who is foe. The description of the environment and people/robots/creatures tickle the imagination. Very easy to picture in my mind. The occasional drawings within the book are a nice touch too :)

Let's take a break from the Outside and delve into the world of Grandeur and see what adventures arise!
Easy read and fun throughout page by page. I cannot wait until book 2! I hope it comes out soon...I'd be heartbroken if there were no more books in this series. (make a good movie too)

Quirky, Fun Read

I loved this book. It’s full of imaginative worlds that you want to visit. The characters are like-able and endearing. An entire fandom could be built around Willa and the city of Grandeur. I can’t wait to read more books in this series.

Steampunk romp!

If you’re looking for a steampunk romp of a book, then this is the book for you. The highly detailed setting, finely drawn characters, and entertaining plot work together to keep you reading long past the time you should have turned off the lights.
Many thanks to Richard Due for the copy which I can’t wait to add to my school library and start recommending to student. It’s a perfect fit for my STEM school.

I was a beta reader

I was a beta reader for this book and I devoured it TWICE before it's release. I'm really excited to read it again, which is unusual for. Typically I don't read a book again for a good 5-7 years.

Idiot Genius is unique in that it feels like both sci-fi AND fantasy. There are so many intriguing and fascinating details throughout the story that leave you hungry for more and ready to read again to see what you've missed.

This is some serious fandom fodder and the cosplay that could be born from this are sure to be epic. There is just SO MUCH AWESOME!
