The inspiring
New York Times
bestseller
When Mitt and Ann Romney met in their late teens, a great American love story began. And their life together would be blessed: five healthy sons, financial security, and a home filled with joy. Despite the typical ups and downs, they had a storybook life. Then, in 1998, Ann was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She couldn't believe it was real; there were no therapies or treatments to help her. Mitt told her that day that they would tackle the diagnosis as a team: They were in it together. "As long as it isn't fatal, we're fine. If you have to be in a wheelchair, I'll be right there to push it," he told her. And Ann thought, "But I'll be the one in the wheelchair." A caregiver and helper her whole life, she'd crossed a terrible invisible line. She wouldn't be able to care for her family anymore. She was the patient. Ann and Mitt would face the most frightening and humbling experience of their lives. From reflections on her early life, her marriage, and her diagnosis and recovery, the sources of her faith, and the stories of others who overcame adversity and inspired her to keep going,
In This Together
is a brave and deeply honest portrait of a family facing an unexpected blow, often in the most public of circumstances."A lot of people talk about a transformation that happens when life throws you a curve ball, and the big one in my life was my MS diagnosis. With all the blessings I've had, MS has been my greatest teacher: It has taught me about faith, compassion, and serving others. I've met many people along the way who've shared advice and demonstrated enormous resilience in the face of challenges; their stories gave me strength. In sharing my story, I want to give others hope as I've been given hope on this journey."

Excellent book on MS! A must read for those suffering from MS and their families both!
I have read a lot of books regarding MS since my diagnosis in 2005. This is the first book I am asking my husband and children to also read. Mrs. Romney's description of the roller coaster ride of MS is so spot on and in such honest detail that I don't think I could (or have) explained it any better to my family. I finished the book in three days and couldn't put it down.
I am a Christian and have been praying for both her and JK Rowling being able to use their resources for MS research. I had no idea she had written this book until my mom told me. I am in the process of ordering two more books for my children, am sending a donation to the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases, and have purchased her cookbook in the past and also given as gifts.
And when you have a chronic, progressive, disabling disease like MS, It will do you good to read a book that ends with "... hope is on the way."

A MUST READ
What a book, I couldn't put it down. I lost a sister to MS (she spent 20+ years in bed, unable to get out). This book is easy to read, full of optimism, shows what can happen when you have hope. I accidently purchased 2 copies so I gave one to my daughter who is a nutrional therapist, and she said I am not going to read that book, I don't like the Romney's. She glanced at it and called me to say "thanks" and
she took the book to Cabo for her vacation. If you know anyone with neurological illness, please give them a copy. Ann Romney was criticized during the election for riding horses (by someone not to smart). Every year several of my Shrine Clown buddies go to the
Kiwanis Equestrian Olympics to entertain people (of all ages) with severe illnesses', get up on those big horses and showing the best
therapy they could get. Ann Romney explains all of that and more.

In This Together
Ann Romney was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1998. This is her story about her reaction to finding out she had the disease and what she is doing to deal with it.
I thought the story was interesting to read, if anything just to learn about someone's experiences with MS. Romney wrote in a very easy-to-read manner, but it was very repetitive. It almost seemed like she wrote each chapter in isolation because she would repeat so much.
Time to find more books about people with MS--I'm curious to find out how other people are combating their symptoms, especially those in a more debilitating stage of MS.

I enjoyed this book
I enjoyed this book. Wished for more scientific research data and breakthroughs to be shared. Interesting alternative therapy experiences and their benefits.i.e., reflexology, diet, equestrian. I applaude her philanthropy for the Ann Romney Neurologic Center in Boston. Ann's been lucky that her MS has stayed in a remission level for so long of which she shares, "they don't know just why." She willingly remains a guinea pig of sorts with MRI's and blood work for research. After reading this it did give me pause if this is MS or Lyme disease or both? The diagnosis was made in 1997, when little was known of Lyme disease. The neurological symptoms of Lyme can and do mimic other neurological illnesses. Lyme disease just wasn't on the medical radar in '97 as it is today and the testing to determine such has been convoluted and politicized. She never mentions in the book that Lyme had been considered or testing done. Both, her love of horses and living in the new england area where the cases of Lyme (and MS) are high.
My niece in Vermont went undiagnosed for six years before finally being diagnosed as Lyme. It presented as other neurological sumptoms, muscle weakness, brain fog, etc all being misdiagnosed with repeated negatives for Lyme. I'd recommend this book, its a great read and the cost of book is 100% donation for research.

Family first
This is an easy read book - I read it over 2-3 days of evening reading. I have experienced some of the same things as Ann and could definitely empathize with what she was going through. Despite the Romney wealth, I believe they are just regular people - experiencing life situations like the rest of us. Their family comes first, which shines through in the book.
