Features & Highlights

  • Kitty Cornered
  • is raucous and witty and as heartwarming as a basket of kittens. I’m a bone-i-fied dog lover, but this book settles it: I’m getting a cat, or six.” —Dan Dye, author of
  • Amazing Gracie
  • Bob Tarte had his first encounter with a cat when he was two and a half years old. He should have learned his lesson then, from Fluffy. But as he says, “I listened to my heart instead, and that always leads to trouble.” In this tell-all of how the Tarte household grew from one recalcitrant cat to six—including a hard-to-manage stray named Frannie—Tarte confesses to allowing these interlopers to shape his and his wife’s life, from their dining habits to their sleeping arrangements to the placement and furriness of their furniture. But more than that, Bob begins seeing Frannie and the other cats as unlikely instructors in the art of achieving contentment, even in the face of illness and injury. Bewitched by the unknowable nature of domesticated cats, he realizes that sometimes wildness and mystery are exactly what he needs. With the winning humor and uncanny ability to capture the soul of the animal world that made
  • Enslaved by Ducks
  • a success, Tarte shows us that life with animals gives us a way out of our narrow human perspective to glimpse something larger, more enduring, and more grounded in the simplicities of love—and catnip.

Waiting for the Next Book!

Bob Tarte has written 3 books and I read them all in two weeks. They are THAT GOOD. The first two books introduced us to Bob's transformation from hipster single guy to loving spouse and "dad" to a menagerie. After reading those books, I wanted a parrot and chickens! On to Kitty Cornered which presents the secret world of Bob's cats. They are great to nap with, even if Bob has to hold one cat's water dish like a "sommelier". Bob has a friendly, warm, witty and caring writing style and you will become best friends with him and his household by the end of the book. The only thing I didn't like after finishing Kitty Cornered is that, to date, there is not a book 4 for me to read!! Highly recommended!

A peak inside the lives of 6 cats living in harmony (sort of)

A friend of mine who is an animal lover recommended that I read [[ASIN:B004BLIH0Y Enslaved by Ducks]] which I did back in August of 2012. She also was pushing me to read this book since I own no birds, but do have one cat (and had two at one point). She thought I would love it since she was the one who walked the journey with me with the cat who is no longer with us. He was diagnosed with cancer and we did chemo for 15 months. He was a wonderful cat who thought he was a dog and developed all sorts of weird quirks when he got sick --- which we happily accommodated.

As is often the case, one animal walks into our lives and then then second one meanders in, and then a third one slips in but in this case, Bob and his wife Linda end up with six furry critters in addition to the 50 or so feathered friends they already have. Bob's sense of humor is great and he is very self-deprecating in a way that makes you laugh at his neurosis and how he sees the reflection of himself in the cats. A great study of cat behavior (not scientific but fun).

Bob is a professional writer so not only are the stories interesting, he actually knows how to write and put a book together.

A bit of advice - I thinking reading [[ASIN:B004BLIH0Y Enslaved by Ducks]] first is very helpful in making this book a more enjoyable experience. If you have already spent some time with this couple and getting to know their menagerie, this book works better. It could be read first but I think the order is important.

A good book for animal lovers, cat lovers, and people who enjoy a humorous look at life.

Kitty Cornered

I just loved it. The book to me was on a cats view of the world. Frannie reminds me of some of the cats I take care of, they rule the house.

Get out of my head!

This guy brought humor into every sentence! He put into words what everyone who shares their life with a cat thinks and feels, while also teaching some life lessons. Very nice, smooth and easy read which l will recommend to any cat lover...or even a cat liker!

Cat lovers opus

My husband and I both loved this book. It touched us both deeply, but then we do share our love of felines with the author. All the kitty characters are unique and special. I read it with my little Sophie girl close by on the bed. She's a calico with a similar temperament to Frannie. Buster boy was close by on the floor, he's our orange tabby and exactly opposite of Sophie, very friendly and greets everyone who comes in the door (psst, like a d-o-g). I can't explain how much we live for these two shelter rescues. They are our greatest loves, well, other than each other, but I digress. Suffice to say this book is amazing and I can't wait to read the others. Keep writing Bob, you have quite the gift whether you recognize it or not. Something tells me the latter is more the truth, lol. I'm glad you have Linda, and you both do the work you do. Thank you both.

Kitty stories were good.

Bob needs to get meds for his clinical depression and not whine so much. The cat stories were funny and touching but his whining got very tiresome.

I'm a cat lover and was disappointed

This book started out very promising. I love cats and was looking forward to reading this one.

It's a cronical of a couple who have a house full of a variety of animals. The writing was boring to say the least. There was a disconnect with the writing so much so that I wondered when these people work, how they did what they did, and what the heck was going on.

Rarely do I stop reading mid-book. I just couldn't finish this one

Not well written

This book had such potential, but I was really disappointed. Not well written at all. Did not finish it--just couldn't wade through any more of it. Glad I got it on mega-sale!

Kitty Cornered

It is not a good book. Just too stupid to read. Tried for a third of book, could not go any further.

not the literary opus, but light, kind and a little funny

if you like James Harriot you may like this book. I did. I'm almost finished with the book and i would want to read more by the Author. He writes about the animals, but mostly i think he writes about himself - and he is a quirky funny man... He is what makes the book attractive to me. His love and care of the animals (and his wife) is very touching and heart-warming. It almost does not matter what animal it is he is writing about - birds, cats, bears, or bunnies - he is not patronizing and condescending like too many animal personalities on TV nowdays... he is honest and strange and way interesting.
