  • In the years following World War II, a town too proud of its virtues has to deal with its first murder. The young veteran Jack Davis wholeheartedly believes the town's idyllic vision. He tries to share it with newcomer Lisa Kemper, but she is repelled by everything in the community. While the sheriff tries to find the murderer, Jack and Lisa's contentious courtship reveals the town's astute perceptions and surprising blind spots. Mystery, Romance and Historical Fiction Book

I am a big fan of Christian Historical Fiction. Lightning on a Quiet Night by
Donn Taylor also has Mystery and Romance, which really makes this
book an interesting read.

The book takes the reader back to the 1940's in a small town
of Beneficent, MS. Lisa Kemper is new to town and is trying
to "fit in". Lisa meets one of the towns people, Jack Davis.
He is showing her the town and befriends her. The quiet
community is rattled when a young girl is murdered. The
town sheriff is trying to solve the Murder Mystery. Lisa is
trying to believe the town is quiet and quaint, but with the
murder she is starting to doubt. Jack, who is man of
deep faith, continues to befriend Lisa and they both
suddenly realize there might be a love connection.
Will secrets about the quaint town be revealed during
the murder investigation? Is there a future for Jack and
Lisa?

I had trouble understanding the storyline when I first
started reading it. I had to reread the first chapter a
few times before I really got engrossed in the book.
Once I understood the storyline, there was no stopping
me. I finished the book in a few hours and I thoroughly
enjoyed it. The Christian aspect of the book is very
encouraging. The author has a wonderful writing
style and the characters blended well together.
GREAT BOOK!
