Only women’s bodies are featured?

Only women’s bodies are featured. Reinforcing the message that only women need to change there body and/or accept their body.

This book fills a huge void!

I'm a registered dietitian and I *love* this book! We need more like it. I teach nutrition presentations at elementary schools and will definitely incorporate some of the concepts into my lessons. I read it with my own children and it created the perfect opportunity to have a heartfelt discussion about true body-positivity and self care.

SELF LOVE! SELF CARE!

A beautiful picture book about the journey of a girls body during puberty and growing up. The impact those changes on the outside can have on our insides. It stresses the importance of self acceptance. Also, practicing self care and self love should start sooner rather than later, and should be part of your life routine.

The illustrations are wonderful. Capturing all different types of body types, hairstyles and dress styles. Highlighting the theme that being yourself is great. Always be you! To always love yourself, inside and outside. A great message that can be read by not only adolescent girls but all ages of women.

*Not* for grade 3 - 7 as stated, more preschool - grade 2

Nice illustrations and messages, just completely not what I thought I was going to get based on what the product page described for appropriate age range.

Fails to include boys/men and nonbinary

My son is 10 years old and I bought this book for him. My son loves the book but he told me he is pretty sure that it was meant only for girls. I told him it is meant for everyone. He pointed out it is dedicated to girls. I am disappointed because failing to include all genders reinforces gender roles and expectations.

EXACTLY what she needed!

This is exactly what I was looking for! My 11 yr old daughter has recently expressed (in tears) that she "doesn't like the way I look" I cried with her. I have feared these days with my only daughter. This...a great lesson for all...girls...boys..women and men!

Body positive for young girls. Light, approchable.

My 7-year-old daughter and I liked this book. It's not overly deep or anything, but it does present a positive perspective on all kinds of girl body types, and the message is approachable and joyful for younger kids. As someone who was aware of and embarrassed by my chub at a pretty young age, and counting calories by middle school, I'm glad to have books like this for my daughter. It sounds silly, but body positivity just wasn't a thing when I was growing up, so I don't have the language to discuss this naturally with my kiddo. Both of her parents are short and sturdy, and my daughter is a fireplug like us. At 7, she's already aware that she's built differently from most other kids her age (who honestly mostly seem so skinny and delicate to me--even all the boys!), and so far she seems to notice it but not be bothered by it, which I hope continues. Besides height and weight and skintone and hair, the book addresses (lightly--everything has a pretty light touch) physical ability differences--another area where I'm not super savvy, because I'm older and didn't come up an era of inclusive education. Happily, classrooms are more inclusive these days, and kids learn and play with kids with a wider range of physical abilities, and seem to take the natural continuum of physical ability for granted. But it's good to see a nice spectrum of bodies depicted.

It might be a little too light for older girls, who might crave more substance/perspective/history. But it's a good entry point for younger girls. It's cisnormative, so if you're looking for a resource for trans girls, this won't be explicitly helpful.

All Bodies Are Different (And That’s Okay!)

Every so often I stumble across a book I wish I’d had the opportunity to read when I was a kid. This is one of those books.

While acknowledging that all bodies are different (and this is okay!), the focus of this book is appreciating what your body can do rather than what it looks like. Examples include using your hands to create, your eyes to watch television or read and your nose to smell the sea or flowers.

Self care ideas for showing your body kindness are included and seeking help from others is normalised. What you can do for your body and what it does for you are addressed but you are also reminded that you are more than your body. You are kind, curious, passionate and so many other wonderful things.

I absolutely adored the message of this book but it was Carol Rossetti’s illustrations that sealed the deal for me. So many different bodies are represented. Bodies of various colours, shapes, sizes and abilities are included. There’s even cellulite, body hair and stretch marks, and I love that!

I’ve lost count how many times I’ve read this book so far. Although the target audience are children, adults who didn’t receive this message as kids will also be able to use this book to challenge the stereotypes they’ve internalised about their own body.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, an imprint of Quarto Publishing Group, for the opportunity to read this book.

Tween Approved.

Grabbed this for my 12 yr old daughter.

She really enjoyed this and could relate. I think it opened her eyes some as well.
