Thrilling plot, intriguing characters, wondrous sci-fi world

This novel has everything you want from a good heist -- strategy, high stakes, unexpected twists. The characters are both likeable and morally complex. (It is refreshing to see young characters who are not the moral center of the story but who still have a lot to learn from older characters.) Readers get glimpses of a wondrous and (apparently) well-built sci-fi world, with intriguing technology and cultures that later novels in the series will (I hope) explore further. Oh, and did I mention the cool ships, pirates, powerful corporations, and trained assassins?
