It's a great dictionary, but

As always, Merriam-Webster dictionaries are good; they are what they are and anybody ordering one should know exactly what to expect. Contents are five star for the price - this isn't the OED. The reason for the one star deduction is that the open side page ends are solid. There is no indication where, say, the "M"'s or "Q"'s start. One must leaf through the pages and look at the headings. If I had known about this fact, I would have ordered a more expensive version.

Your good, standard dictionary

I finally got this dictionary to replace the same one which I'd purchased 1982. That one had nice thumbholds, and this new one doesn't, but I can live with that. Many of the old thumbhold letters had torn off anyway. I like Merriam-Webster and use it for playing Scrabble with my Scrabble partner. If we can't find the word in this dictionary, we don't use it (our rule). A good, standard, and recommendable dictionary.

Excellent reference book that I use on a daily basis. Spell Check on my computer doesn't always have the answers to my horrific spelling ability. So having this reference book along with the Spell Check on my computer I can actually write an email, letter or report and impress everyone without looking like I have the worst spelling abilities this side of the Mississippi !!! LOL I should have purchased this book along time ago and now that I have I really have no idea what I did without this reference book all this time !!!

Good dictionary for around the house and elementary school and high school work.

The dictionary's content is a great resource for around the house and basic school work (elementary and high school). Good definitions, but could be more inclusive. It does seem to be abridged. The CD was missing, the book's spine has some damage, and the entries seem be abridged. Thus the four stars. Other than that, it is a great dictionary for common use.
