Description

From School Library Journal PreS-Gr 1—Kids are introduced to computer programming language through large text and succinct definitions. The title explores very basic coding processes for young coders so they can learn about finding patterns, repeating loops, and storing data. The book will have kids, as well as parents, using words such as algorithm, flowchart, and variable in a very simple context. The board book format results in an interactive, easy to maneuver volume, filled with lift-the-flap and pull-tab activities. Each spread is organized like a lesson plan—new vocabulary words, definitions, and an interactive game are included. Each game is accompanied by colorful illustrations with clear directions and a quick assessment at the end of each activity. VERDICT A great introduction to the behind-the-scenes world of computer programming for independent or group use. A fine addition to any board book collection.—Christina Pesiri, Michael F. Stokes Elementary School, Island Trees-Levittown, NY "Clear, age-appropriate, and durable—the best way to get a young coder started—without screen time." — Kirkus Reviews "[T]his book will help children develop critical thinking, logic, and other skills to cement lifelong computer literacy, which is extremely valuable and sought-after in today's world." — San Diego Family Magazine Kiki Prottsman is Education Program Manager at Code.org and a former computer science instructor at the University of Oregon. Great confidence builder

Great first introduction to coding. I wasn't sure how you could introduce coding in a book but they did a great job! My 7 year old daughter loves it. It was challenging enough to make her think through the answers but not hard enough to make her give up. Definitely, recommend for an introduction to coding and building confidence in coding.

My 4 and 5 year olds love this book

My 4 and 5 year olds love this book! The way it is written they were able to learn some concepts that I thought would be much too complicated at first. They love to have us read it to them, and I often find them reading it by themselves!

interactive and colorful

My daughters and I are liking this book. Its colorful and interactive which makes it interesting. It takes a few reads for them to understand the concepts but when they like a book, my daughters like me to read the same book a million times so thats actually a plus. My daughters are ages 3 and 4.

Clear thinking for children.

This is SO clear. Some words are complex & have to be originally read to youngsters. The book does an excellent job of explaining them. There are tabs along the way to pull out making it fun almost like a puzzle.
If children learn this logic process, it should help them in everything they do.

Something is missing

Interesting!!! Great flaps!!!

But I felt smth was also missing. Where is the link to the actual coding? Unpacking this for young kids but I thought it will be nice to associate it with some simple coding activities.

That will make this purchase perfect 👌🏽

6 year old loved it

My 6 year old nephew is getting into coding and absolutely loved this! He opened this and as soon as I said it was a coding book his eyes lit up and he immediately sat down and began looking through the book. There are a lot of pop up tabs, pulling tabs, and spinning wheels in this sturdy board book that walks you through decision making processes. I'd say this was a win.

Great coding book for beginners

great coding book for young beginner. I bought this book for my 6 yr old, and she loves it. Everyday we went over a new concept. She understood very well and were very happy to sovle the associated problems like playing games. The only thing I could complain is that it has fewer pages than I expected.
