If you are looking for information about a particular National Park or Historic Site this is an excellent place to begin your search. If you are browsing in hopes of finding places you may want to visit, again this book will serve you well. Author Mel White has covered everything. Every unit, over 400 in total, of the National Park System is covered here with basic information, and for many one or more photographs are included. Mel gives the telephone number and URL for every unit's website and sometimes other contact information as well. More popular sites receive more coverage and may also include maps. If your potential or casual interest begins to turn into a more intense one, the book helps you make the next step to obtaining more information. This is the kind of book that if you lay it down in a convenient place you may find yourself picking it up from time to time almost without realizing it.
Would I have liked more illustrations and maps, and coverage of the National Monuments managed by the Bureau of Land Management and other federal agencies? Of course, I would, but that would have made an already big book even bigger and somewhat defeated its intent of covering the National Pary System. It is a great book and one capable of giving much use and pleasure for years to come.

I love this up to date book. It is a fountain of information! It describes every national park, monument, seashore, trail, site, etc. It has tips which help you plan trips to the various places and gives a little history as well.

The book and text is physically smaller than I would prefer.

I guess I should have read the description better. This book is about 550 pages but covers over 400 parks, monuments, historic sites, etc. There is very little info on each site. I would have preferred just the major national parks with more pictures, descriptions and "things to do" at each park. The pictures are disappointing. Very few of them made me think, oh I'd love to see that in person. I wish there would have been a sample of pages in the description of the product.

Arranged into 10 geographical areas (e.g. Northeast, Great Lakes, Alaska) with associated states. Maps included. Beautiful, accurate, detailed, excellent resource!

I got this for a friend who travels a lot and has a goal to see every is park. This is an awesome guide to places even he didn't know.

It looks like a beautiful book. I had to spend 15 minutes scraping off the UPC code off the front of the book. Between my thumbnail and some Good Gone I got it off.
