Features & Highlights

  • Navy SEAL Sniper
  • is a revised, updated, and full-color edition of
  • The 21st-Century Sniper
  • .The sniper is a battlefield threat second to none. Mastering the art of marksmanship is critical but is only part of what makes a Navy SEAL sniper. The modern sniper follows in the long line of warriors that have time and again faced the enemy alone. Snipers must be able to apply the craft in an urban environment or alone on a hostile mountain top with equal effectiveness. Today's sniper has to not just leverage technological advances but have the foreknowledge to select the best rifle and gear for the mission. Increasingly, he must have the mental toughness to adapt to a constantly changing environment, gather intelligence, and truly act as a force multiplier. In this in-depth look through the eyes of former Navy SEAL sniper instructor Brandon Webb and fellow Navy SEAL sniper Glen Doherty, the authors reveal the fundamentals of not just marksmanship, but the science of shooting, stalking, and camouflage, and how technological advances have changed the training and increased the effectiveness of the modern sniper. Including maritime, helicopter, and urban sniper operations, this updated edition also goes into detail on the latest research, development, testing, and evaluation of weapons and optics. From the basics like compensating for wind and bullet drop, to camouflage and placing yourself or your team in the best position to take a photo or pull a trigger, Webb and Doherty cover the critical elements that comprise the twenty-first century sniper.

Exceptional

I can't review it with objectivity, as I helped in the rewrite. But when I got my copy I was floored. Having spent time on the phone and exchanging e-mails with Glen on this rewrite, I got to know him a little. Brandon is a quiet warrior, Glen, his best friend, just made you smile instantly. The book itself is amazing due to these two fine men. I'm humbled to have been part of this, I can't say enough about the work John Mann did here. He was and is a rock solid writer/editor.

For those of you who want the in-the-weeds on being a sniper, this book captures so much in so few pages that you'll need to read it through at least 3 times, and then you'll keep it as a reference.

Excellent Book!

This is exactly as advertised. While reading you feel like you are sitting around having beers with the authors while they swap good stories and better information. Brandon Webb does an excellent job taking the technical 'stuff' and breaking it down so that you and I 'get it'! Having excerpts from Glen are priceless! Highly recommended!!!!

A great piece of American History!

Navy SEAL Sniper is a wonderful book. I purchased this book because I am a supporter of Brandon Webb, I truly believe in what he stands for. Between The Red Circle, Benghazi: The Definitive Report, and now Navy SEAL Sniper, I feel like even though I never had the honor to meet Glen, I feel like both Glen and Brandon are family, I am broken hearted that two of these three great men (Hero's) are as Drago says, they are guarding the Angels. I recommend this book to anyone; I love how it starts with a history refresher. I am not a Sniper but I find this book both entertaining and very informational. I love the fact that Brandon has a heart of gold: 50% of the proceeds from this book go to Glen’s estate.

great read, but not a technical reference

this is a great book about snipers. I've got a couple more books that I think fit more into the "snipers bible" section than this book does, but it is a great, interesting read. not a technical reference, but more an overview and history of snipers and includes modern gear. a pleasant and enjoyable read, but not a "put it in your ruck on the next mission" kind of read. I'd recommend the john plaster books or "hard target interdiction" for those kind of books.

Straight to the point

While I can say I have no background as a sniper and definitely none as a SEAL (I am just regular Army 11B), I have to say this book on Sniping written by SEALS Webb and the late Doherty was by far the best, non-over technical book on sniping. Covering everything from ballistics, to the pros and cons of various sniper systems as well as the concise history of the Sniper and what it means today in the current battlefield.

Definitely worth the coin. And Mr. Webb definitely knows how to talk a man's language. Truly they are men among men.

Cutting edge gear

I've built many rifles for my own use through the years and thought I knew a lot about what was needed for a great shooter.
This book has learned me a few things, which isn't a bad thing, that I'll be integrating into the next build.
Could have been a bit more "techy" for my taste but the info is super great. Would you expect any thing else from top tier Navy?

The equipment listed are not all new but of a very high quality and the opinions given on the gear are very trustworthy.
If your wanting to purchase a long range rifle/scope reading this work will get you on the right path.

... or you could just go buy an H&K. ;)
