Not completely appropriate for young sensitive readers

I bought this book for an elementary school. Our school is always looking to build the library with books about how to help the environment. While the overall message is great and presented in a child friendly way there was one passage that made our staff feel this book is not age appropriate. There is talk about how children are not getting enough water killing children at a rate of a jet crashing every...whatever the stat was. This is too scary for young children. Fear is never the way to teach. We will NOT be adding this book to our library.

Also, the book arrived damage. I did not want to ship the book back because that feels counter intuitive to the efforts of a green movement...then again, so is ordering from Amazon too often.

Great Book

Great book to teach kids about responsibility and the environment through an engaging and relatable story. I particularly liked the dual layer approach with additional, relevant, information at the bottom of each page that gives more specific details if needed, but if not you can just focus on the story itself.
Also beautifully illustrated, if you're interested in this topic and discussing with your kids highly recommended.

A GREAT children's book that entertains and enlightens children

A GREAT children's book that entertains and enlightens children, as well as adults. Maria Godsey uses clever rhyming, imagery and storytelling, wrapped in colorful and lively illustrations, to convey a simple, yet important message; responsibility starts with an idea, and one simple action and from there can grow like an acorn into an Oak. Not only will young readers identify with this wonderful book, but Mom, Dad, Teachers and all adults who read it are sure to find themselves smiling, while also doing some important thinking. "Not for me, please! I choose to act green," is a wonderful addition to any child's bookshelf. Can't wait to read more from this new author!

Beautifully written message with equally beautiful illustrations

I bought this for a 7yo on the advice of a friend...the whole family loved it. The message was simple, and well-articulated for younger and older children alike. Thought provoking questions at the end, and factoids included throughout, sparked some good conversations with our son, who now thinks of doing his part as the actions of a superhero...couldn't ask for anything more!

Great book. Easy to read and beautifully illustrated. the story is inspiring and very well written for children. The facts at the bottom of the pages are great teaching points for children and parents. The illustrations go well with each page. Questions at end of the book add to the teaching. Recommend for home and for the classroom.

Engageing for kids and adults, a fun and thoughtful read

Enjoyed reading with my kids very much. Started a much larger discussion on how to be good and respectful, not just green. My kids enjoyed identifying with all the green things we do already and daddy really enjoyed pointing out the things they don't (like lights and TV's left on everywhere) ;-). Since it's a book that contains many things kids can relate to everyday they identify as Luke easily and stay engaged through the full story. We have even revisited several pages to talk about certain things.

Great ideas geared toward young people

This book was great for chucking ideas for how to be more environmental. I read it to a group of second and third graders and the main storyline really held their attention. Most of it was applicable to their lives as it talked about school lunch waste, straws, plastic bags, etc. The title is catchy enough that it’s easy to remind them that they can say “not for me please” when offered single use plastic items.

Perfect

Covers a lot of ways to reduce waste, and prioritizes reducing waste over recycling (though it does encourage recycling). Also includes info for adults along the bottom of each page. Quality book with good info and art.
