The bell above the door rang and she glanced over her shoulder to see Chloe and her K-9, Hank, enter. "Hey. Here's yours." Izzy pushed the unopened food to her sister. "Great. I'm starving." Chloe took the seat opposite her and opened her carton. Hank settled on the floor at her feet, while Chloe took a bite and sighed her enjoyment. "Pork roast and mushrooms," Izzy said with a grimace. "Nasty. How are we even related?" Chloe, one of Izzy's five siblings, was two years older. "You don't know what's good," Chloe said once she swallowed. "I know what fungus is and there's no way we're meant to eat it." "I beg to argue with that," a voice said. Izzy turned once more to see Ruthie, another sister, standing there, still decked out in her scrubs. At least they didn't have blood on them this time. Ruthie sat in the third seat and opened the food Izzy slid in front of her. "Mushrooms have many redeeming qualities," Ruthie said. "They have selenium. It's good for your bladder." Izzy rolled her eyes. "I don't care. I'm not eating them." "How about they're rich in vitamin D and boost your immune system?" Ruthie took a bite. "There are other ways to do both without having to eat fungus," Izzy said and opened her can of Coke. This time Chloe wrinkled her nose. "You won't eat something healthy, but you'll pour that into your system. You make no sense at all." It was an old argument. A comfortable one. The door swung open once more and Brady, Izzy's brother who was a former underwater criminal investigator turned homicide detective, joined them at the table. "What's up, brats?" Ruthie raised a brow. "I finally break away from the hospital where I'm saving lives and this is the respect I get?" "From the head brat, no less," Izzy murmured. Brady was the eldest of the St. John siblings. He shot her a wink and dug into his sweet and sour chicken. "So, Rude Ruthie, you cut anyone up today?" "Yes, two down, two to go." Izzy caught the startled gaze of the customer just leaving the booth next to their table. "She's a surgeon," she hurried to reassure her. The woman's obvious relief made Izzy giggle. Once she was out the door, Izzy threw her napkin at Brady. "Seriously, you're rotten. You've got to realize not everyone gets our morbid St. John family humor." "Sorry" He didn't look very sorry He took another bite. "Who decided it was Chinese day anyway? I was kind of in the mood for Mexican." "Derek decided," Chloe said. "Remember? Every second Thursday of the month is Chinese. He insisted." "And yet," Brady said, "he's not here." Izzy frowned. "Anybody seen him lately? I'm kind of worried about him. He wasn't at Mom's this past Sunday." Her siblings stopped eating and looked at one another. Chloe shook her head. "I haven't seen him, now that you mention it." "Me either," Ruthie said. Brady leaned back. "That's kind of weird." Worry niggled at Izzy "You think he's all right?" Ruthie's chuckle sounded forced. "Y'all need to stop. Derek's probably on one of his undercover gigs again." "Or got called out with the SWAT team," Chloe murmured. Izzy sighed. Such was the life of a family in law enforcement. "You're probably right. Hey, is Linc coming? I got him sweet and sour chicken." Brady glanced at the clock on the wall. "He texted and said he was finishing up some paperwork and would be about ten minutes late." Linc, second oldest in the St. John clan, had finally been assigned to the FBI field office in his home city. It had been one of his greatest joys to move back to be near his family once again and he never missed a Thursday lunch unless he just couldn't help it. "So, who's eating at Mom's this Sunday?" Chloe asked. "I'll be there," Izzy said. The others chimed in their plans to attend the weekly lunch. Sometimes only a couple of them could make it. Sometimes they all could. No matter the number, the food was always there and waiting, thanks to their father, who had most weekends off from his law practice — and loved to cook. Izzy drew in a deep breath and glanced around the table. How she loved them. And admired them. Her phone buzzed and she unclipped it from its home on her belt. A text from Kevin, her partner. Can you go on a stakeout with me tonight? Yes, I guess. What's going on? I'll explain when you pick me up at 6:30. (Continues...) Excerpted from Oath of Honor by Lynette Eason . Honor the Brave Ones Who Work Like This

If a book has Lynette Eason's name on it, I buy it. She's gotten better and better, and this story is a heart-stopper. Several times I said to myself, "Huh, didn't see that coming!" I have to wonder if she can sit still and write active scenes with bits of dark humor, such as the distinction between dangling off a parking garage vs. getting thrown off one! I'd be pacing around and eating, which is what I did while reading.

This book will drive home the impact a law enforcement officer's death has on family, other cops, and community. It seems in many books I've read, the officers don't actually die--they just have close calls and undergo physical therapy, then get married. This book contains a wrenching loss of an enjoyable character. I loved the way the two law enforcement families support each other. May it be so outside the fictional world.

Super Law E

I liked the fast-paced suspense of this excellent novel which revolves around a police officer whose partner is murdered. As a former prosecutor, I was nimpressed how realistic the crime scenes are written. I recommend it to my reader friends. Ed Lane

Full of action!

I have only read a couple of Eason’s books but wow! This has quickly become one of my favorite reads so far this year! The action is non-stop and feels are all over the place! Izzy, thought I don’t care for her name, is a great character. An indestructible female cop is exactly what the millennial generation needs! I love her friendship with Ryan and he seems like the dreamiest detective I’ve ever read about.

Though I felt that they all had too many siblings, the sibling bonds and loyalty are great. The story is very fast paced and I was never left wanting to skim through pages. As I’m writing this review, I still have to yet to finish the conclusion of this but let me tell you, I’m reading for hours before I go to bed and on my lunch breaks too, because it is that good. I wish I was a faster reader!

A good read for investigative minds

If you love police work, detectives, crime scene investigations, and catching a killer, you'll love this book. It says enough without giving away too much, and the villain reveal was done so well. I wouldn't have guessed it was who it was! However, I am still a bit disappointed with the inconsistent pacing of the book. It seemed to drag on for some parts and move quickly at other points. Though a good read, it was longer than necessary.

RRR's Review of Oath of Honor

A series rivaling the O'Malley's. Yes, this book rivals my until now all time favorite suspense series. With the family bond, the suspense, the loss and healing in this book. I do have to say I don't recommend this for anyone under 16 and is probably better for 17/18 or older. I hated the start of this book, HATED it! But sadly it was necessary for the plot as much as I hated it.
Warning, there is violence, several shoot outs, mentions of insanity, kidnapping, talk of murder, murder, attempted murder, and a character is killed.
Otherwise, ironically this is a wonderful novel that I love. I don't particularly like that Isabelle was a police officer since I don't agree with women being law enforcement... Don't chew me out for it, I don't care if it's unfeminine of me, I prefer to hold to my beliefs then give into the universal opinions that . . . Oh, forget that. I just have to say that this gets four stars since I didn't agree with everything but enjoyed this special suspense book from Lynette Eason, who happens to be a fantastic suspense author. I am so eager and am looking forward to reading the next book!

One of those books that keeps you guessing

This is the first book in the Blue Justice series and it centers around police officer Isabelle St. John. Coming from a big family Izzy will need them to lean on when her partner is murdered and her life is threatened on several occasions.

Izzy is determined to discover exactly what happened even though it puts her in the middle of a criminal organization and questions concerning her own family. While she is determined to find answers she also has to deal with her dead partner's brother, Ryan, who is a homicide detective. Ryan shadows every step Izzy makes in order to get answers to what happened to his brother. This investigation will reveal so many different and surprising secrets right up to the end that will have their heads spinning. When all the wild activity finally settles down Izzy and Ryan will acknowledge their hidden feelings.

I remember thinking it can’t get any better than this and it did!

From the moment I opened the book to the moment I closed it, I was hooked. I remember thinking it can’t get any better than this and it did!

The book starts out when officer Izzy St. John’s partner and close friend Kevin is murdered in front of her, from there Izzy works closely with Ryan Marshall, Kevin’s older brother - who also happens to be the man she’s liked for years - to uncover the mystery surrounding Kevin’s death. Add in her twin brother who is mysteriously involved in the night Kevin was murdered you have an action packed and suspense filled book that will keep you turning the page until there’s none left.

I was so invested in Ryan & Izzy’s story from the moment I met them, which doesn’t happen often when I’m reading. It takes a certain type of character for me to make such a strong connection with, let alone it happening with two characters.

The connection I felt with these two characters is why it made the book all the more special to me. I loved every minute I spent reading this book and getting to know the St. John’s & Marshall’s.

When an author can write characters I can relate to in such a strong way I never let go and Lynette Eason is one of those authors. She has a way of making her characters relatable by putting them in heavy situations where they might not be the most comfortable and are pushed outside their comfort zones. That’s where you begin to see their true personality and how they react in certain situations. You begin to understand and relate to certain characters based on those reactions.

I also have to applaud Lynette for making the police aspect of the book very realistic and believable. I feel like it added another level of suspense, because of how realistic it felt.

I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the Blue Justice series and finding out what’s in store for the St. John family.

*I purchased my own copy and was not required to write a review, these opinions are my own.*

Wow Awesome thriller

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love it when I can drown myself in on of Lynette Eason’s books! And Oath of Honor is one thill after another! With two families that live across the stree from each other heavy on the law enforcement jobs, Ms Eason has readers, including me, on the edge of their seats throughout the book. I could have read this in a day but I kept going back to re-read and savor each part of this story.

Isabelle St.John was in horror as she watches her police partner murdered in cold blood! And was that her brother Derek at the scene as well, and did he just save her life? She wasn’t sure but she would sure find out. Kevin’s murder takes law inforcement to its high when they find out the are dealing with more than they imagined and there are so many twists and turns in this story it will keep you guessing. I’ll admit, I didn’t know the person behind it all until the very end!

And I enjoyed the attraction between Issy and her partners brother Ryan as the investigation continues, of course Ryan has so stay in the background so he won’t do anything to hurt the case, being Kevin’s brother. But he made sure he knew what was going on. And he made sure Issy was protected. The sweet attraction warmed my heart in the mist of the tragedy and fast pass thrills!

If you are a thrills and chills kind of person, then this book is for you! Don’t miss out on this amazing story by Ms Eason.I received this book from Bethany House Publishers to read and review.
