To me Mitch is the same deadly assassin and killer of bad guys that he has always been

ORDER TO KILL is a Vince Flynn novel starring Mitch Rapp, written by Kyle Mills. Following Vince Flynn’s untimely death, Mills picked up Vince’s gauntlet and wrote an outstanding thriller, The Survivor. He’s now done it again with Order To Kill. After a short opening scene, a dust up in South Africa, Mitch is sent by his boss, CIA Director, Irene Kennedy to Islamabad, Pakistan to resolve a suspected theft of several of the country’s nukes by, it is thought, the Russians. The intrigue later sends Rapp and his investigative team to Saudi Arabia and Costa Rica. In this narrative Mills introduces new and interesting characters into the mix. One is a Russian, Grisha Azarov, a formidable opponent for Rapp. Azarov and Rapp both fear and respect each others abilities within the clandestine world of assassins. Interesting to watch this play out in the story. Some of the scenes in the book are a bit over the top even for Rapp. One is when he jumps into a company Gulfstream 550 jet and pilots it into foreign airspace at night and in weather. Don’t recall Mitch ever taking flying lessons. Critics have said that Mills has managed to make Mitch Rapp more warm and fuzzy and human. I don’t see that. To me Mitch is the same deadly assassin and killer of bad guys that he has always been. I very much enjoyed Order To Kill. Kyle Mills has done a great job of keeping Vince Flynn’s vision and integrity intact. I give the novel a strong 5-star rating.

i missed something

Mr. Mills is doing a good job of carrying on the series but some of the Vince Flynn things I miss is Mr. Flynn's attention to detail ie what clothes people wore, what rooms looked like. Mr. Mills writing seems to go from action to action but it's not Mitch. The first chapter going over Mitch's past love life and his current love, the woman married to the man who killed someone he loved seemed more than strange and maybe I missed the chapter that explained why she was decorating his house evaded me. I'll buy the next book but there isn't the excitement the pervious (including the last) seemed to have.

Book felt like a (far too detailed) outline of a Vince Flynn ...

Too much telling. Not enough showing. Rapp's character was wooden. Some scenes were painstakingly long. Book felt like a (far too detailed) outline of a Vince Flynn novel and not a real Vince Flynn novel.

An Addiction Worth Reading

If you ever want to experience what a drug addiction is like, just get hooked on the Mitch Rapp series. The newest release of “Order to Kill” gives you your next fix, only to be licking your lips for the next book to be released. I truly haven’t found a series I’ve enjoyed more then these, or found one that folks I’ve turned on to this “addiction” haven’t thanked me profusely. The Surgeon General should put a warning on the cover of these. You’ve been warned… Now enjoy!!!!

Lacks Flynn's depth of detail and the plot could have been better

I am a huge fan of Vince Flynn and the Mitch Rapp series. Loved all of them. Like many others noted in their reviews, this one definitely felt different, and a bit disappointing. I get that Mills is a different writer with a different style. And you could make comparisons of the different Bond films (same character, different directors/cast etc) or Nolan's Batman triology vs older Batman movies, etc and how you could have a different take from different writers on the same character. I appreciate that. However, I was expecting a continuation of Mitch Rapp in Flynn's style, but it wasn't. To me, the biggest issues in this particular book are a) relatively weak and uninteresting plot, b) Mills is light on details vs Flynn (i.e. Flynn would describe every gadget and weapon like he actually used it and every scene with vivid details like you were there), and c) I thought there was surprisingly little action for a Mitch Rapp book.

Also, I was binge reading the first ten books. At first, I found it annoying that Flynn would re-introduce (or remind the reader of) every main character with a paragraph or two in each book (i.e. Scott Coleman, Marcus Dumond, etc.) On the 3rd or 4th book I would just skip those paragraphs because they were basically the same (and I would think "yes, I know that already..."). However, I haven't read a Mitch Rapp book in about a year since the last one came out. And although I remember every character I sort of missed those background details on each character and actually would have been nice to have those details. It worked for Flynn. I wouldn't change that.

Kyle hit a Grand Slam with OTK

As a Mitch Rapp Ambassador, I’ve had the privilege of reading an advance copy of Order To Kill by Kyle Mills. Let me start of by saying that I was very skeptical of the character Vince Flynn created when Kyle took over writing duties. Even more so in October of 2014 when they released the first 3 pages or the first chapter. Mitch was outside with Stan Hurley smoking and drinking… I was thinking, is this Mitch Rapp? He’s not having to blend in inside a hostile environment, he’s perfectly safe with Dr. Irene Kennedy and Mike Nash inside the house talking about him. So as a “slightly obsessive fan” that I am, I decided to write Kyle Mills an email. I was cordial, but also firm in asking where are you going with this. Kyle Mills, being the awesome guy he is to all us longtime fans, replied back within a day. He told me that it was actually Vince Flynn that wrote those three pages and took the time to write me a brief description of where he thought Vince was going and which way he will take the character, in regards to following in the footsteps of Stan Hurley and then of course realizing he needs to make serious changes in his life in order to not end up on that same path. That right there sold me on Kyle as what type of person he is and I was very much looking forward to his efforts in the Mitch Rapp series.

I would describe The Survivor as Kyle Mills hitting a game winning home run in the bottom of the ninth. With Order To Kill, he hit a game winning grand slam at the world series. It’s THAT good.

Grisha Azarov is a formidable opponent unlike anyone Rapp has ever gone up against. He doesn’t come off as an arrogant prick with mental issues like Louis Gould who keeps on trying to become the best by attempting to take out the best. He is cool and collected, with only one significant drawback. He doesn’t have complete operational control. That is where the ruthless Russian President Maxim Krupin comes into play, attempting to control every aspect by not keeping everyone informed. Grisha tells us that the best play would be to go up against Rapp in Russia, where he has the advantage, but due to Krupin’s agenda and control issues, their plans to take out Mitch Rapp always fail.

Mitch Rapp is focusing on making those hard changes in his life we read about in The Survivor. The home his late wife Anna and he started to build is finally finished and he is inching slowly towards a romantic relationship with the most unexpected character. But one who I think is perfect for Mitch. Throughout majority of the book, Mitch is running around with more than a few bruises, black eyes, and an almost nonexistent nose. Who did this to Mitch is what you’re probably wondering, huh!? Well the answer may surprise you.

Besides Mitch, our favorite former Navy Seal, Scott Coleman is back and he has a run in with Grisha which makes for one hell of a read. Also, Dr. Irene Kennedy, Mike Nash and Joe Maslick aka Mas are all back to support our favorite counterterrorism expert do what he does best. Along with those well-known characters, Kyle Mill’s introduces us to a new, relatively minor character Craig Bailer. Craig was awesome, if not for anything else, his sense of humor.

My good friend Ryan The Rappologist has gone on record to say that this is the best Mitch Rapp book since Consent To Kill. Well I’m here to tell you that is he 100% right. This is one of the best, most thrilling Mitch Rapp books to date. To say that it’s a MUST READ would be an understatement. This is the type of book that will have you staying up late at night to finish it on your second and third time reading it. It’s just too difficult to put down.

This would make Vince puke!

In reading it, it becomes apparent how much Vince had contributed to the previous novel, The Survivor. This novel is the first which was 100% written under the new author. I believe that if Vince were alive today, this novel would make him puke. In a nutshell, there are no political villains to build up for Mitch to verbally assault and ultimately put in their place put in their place (a therapeutic staple for conservatives in previous Flynn novels), a major character gets seriously injured, the major attack isn't stopped, and Mitch not only does not kill the guy who carried out the attack but let's him go! WTF? Kyle Mills seems to have gone rogue with the Flynn characters. I'll give him one more shot with the next novel, but if that one is as bad as this one then I will stop reading these novels altogether, which would be a very sad decision for me because I was among Flynn's most avid and loyal of fans.

Great book

I read reviews of this book by various critics suggesting that Mills has not grasped the fine details of Mitch Rapp’s character, and criticizing that his writings are weak and lack Flynn’s vision and personal character. I disagree with those reviewers and I believe Mills is doing a great job and his main character Mitch Rapp is the same deadly assassin and killer of bad guys that he has always been. I very much enjoyed Order to Kill by Kyle Mills

Mitch Rapp is back and on fire! Don't miss this amazing read!

Like Slaven and numerous other people, i was fortunate to have been selected as a Mitch Rapp Ambassador. I have been reading Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp for years now and this one is a huge success!! Kyle Mills does a tremendous job with Mitch and continuing the great characters that are Mitch Rapp and Scott Coleman and the rest of the gang. There are plenty of hair raising parts and you finally meet someone who is going to give Rapp a run for his money!

I was a little skeptical at first, i enjoyed The Survivor but was extremely curious as to how Mills was going to continue the Rapp saga. He has far surpassed my expectations and is clearly on the right road to making Rapp great. The beginning starts out with a bit of backstory and then you see Rapp in his normal setting!! I don't want to spoil any of the book for readers but you guys will not be disappointed.

If you are on the fence about this one, go to therealbookspy.com and get his lowdown on Mitch Rapp and visit his Rapp Encyclopedia to get any info you want on the characters and the history of Vince Flynn's dynamic character.

I would also like to say thank you to Atria Books, Emily Bestler books and all of the people involved with getting Rapp back in the game and allowing me to be a part of the Ambassador program! Also a huge thanks to Kyle Mills to your relentless efforts in continuing this great character and series!!
