Great writing - decent plot - leisurely tempo

You know that feeling of waking up hungry in the middle of the night? Then you walk to the refrigerator as a mere ritual, perfectly aware that there's nothing in there but groceries and a few cans of soda. And you open the door and find a large slice of chocolate cake! Yeah - that feeling. That's Piccadilly Jim for you.

I thought I'd tasted most of P.G. Wodehouse's best cooking but this one didn't disappoint me. Maybe not his best work but considering that it was one of his first - it's pretty darn good. The story-line, though quite original - isn't out-and-out thrilling and I felt that the protagonist could have been introduced much sooner. Still, one does not tire of the author's rare gift for description and a hilarious obsession with the character of Victorian era English butlers.

I'm giving it 4 stars for a most satisfying cover-to-cover reading experience. The story-line was great in parts, but I mostly enjoyed the literature. You will enjoy this if you relish good writing - not so much if you're looking for a blockbuster plot. A book to be savored slowly.

I highly recommend you to sample this piece of superb storytelling. Yum!
