Description

"American author Elizabeth Stephens is an emerging new voice in speculative fiction, re-igniting the wonder of the 'what if' of other life forms...she has taken a genre I love (sci fi) and combines it with one I really don't (horror) and has created a real, virtual page-turner!" - The British Blacklist "Population was an amazing read! I highly recommended if you enjoy a novel with a strong heroine. It had plenty of action and a good touch of romance so it would be a good fit for any readers. Don't wait too long to check this one out!" - World of Diversity Fiction Review "Dystopian goodness! It's action packed from start to finish. You feel tense while reading it because around every single corner is trouble...It really is a thrill ride from start to finish that you need to hop on." - The Urban Paranormal Book Blog 4+ Stars! Other Amazon reviewers say... "Perfect mix of strong (kick ass) heroine, romance, and suspense" "It's like walking dead and war of the worlds had a baby" "Heart Pounding, Gritty, Diverse, and Violent..." "fantastically amazing" "I love that the heroine is a person of color. Best apocalypse story I've come across." "I need the next book right now!" Features & Highlights

  • Turns out that my alien overlord may be my only shot in this post-apocalyptic nightmare. Figures.
  • Abel
  • Eleven years after the sky opened up and aliens descended to ravage the world, Abel thought she had seen and experienced everything that this savage new land - Population - had to offer. Almost...Shock is what she feels when the alien she robbed hunts her down. His corpse, though huge and glowing, had been mangled and left for the scavengers. She thought he was dead, but now he's back to recover what she's stolen and maybe take her life. Abel won't give up either so easily, because these are the only clues she has to where aliens have taken her little sister. What she doesn't expect is to survive her encounter with this brutish, cocky alien, or that she might just have to band together with him to fight against even more dangerous predators. In doing so, Abel unlocks forgotten emotions of a world long past - things she never thought to experience.Desire. Trust. Hope.
  • Kane
  • When the little human female attempts to save his life, he doesn't think much of it. But when she makes off with his sword and the key he has been searching for she demands his attention. He hunts her, not expecting that one so small could be so hard to kill. And in dueling with her, and seeing her own determination to save her family, Kane finds it harder to want to push her away and too easy to want to keep her close and under his protection. But the new world that his kind has claimed for their own is harsh and relentless. In order to survive it and complete their parallel missions, they'll need to defy the prejudices of his superior race and work together as equals.
  • Set in a post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest, Population is an alien invasion, post-apocalyptic, SciFi romance with a strong black female lead kicking ass alongside a possessive, warrior Alpha. This full-length novel contains steamy sex and some violent elements and finds its HEA in book #2, Saltlands. Additional books are planned in the same universe from other characters' perspectives, including
  • Generation 1
  • in 2020.

The author couldn't have described it better when she called it "a science fiction/post-apocalyptic

I don't read a lot of science fiction but I devoured Population. The author couldn't have described it better when she called it "a science fiction/post-apocalyptic, gorey, romantic adventure-fest." This is a great book that will leave you wanting more.

Sequel Please

I couldn't put it down - I sped through the book and hope the sequel comes out soon! It's a great first novel for the author, offering complex character development, a unique post-apocalyptic atmosphere, and engaging language. It's a sometimes dark, sometimes hopeful, and always quick-paced story.

Loved this fresh new novelist!

Finished this book in two days, if you are a fan of the Hunger Games series or Divergent, I would defiantly recommend this book. Elizabeth's first novel is well written and imaginative - with a well crafted new world and the twists and turns the main character leads you on.

Not to give anything away, but the ending will definitely leave you wanting more!

It's a one of a kind love story, and I want to start the sequel ...

I was hooked by the end of chapter 1 and couldn't put it down, except to sleep. Driven to find out the ending I read the whole book in 3 stittings; I had to eat too. It's a post-apocalyptic love story, and I want to start the sequel now. I can't wait for it to be published.

So darn good, stayed up way to late reading!!!!!

( I won this book in a contest and I am up front about it )

I have to admit, I LOVE this story. I also think I have a new book boyfriend. Kane, oh Kane, he is brilliant. And alien. But who cares. And Abel, what a heroine. She is feisty, fierce, loves her family and will fight to the death. Not a simpering, needy girl. There is so much action, fighting, romance and love in here that it is easy to stay up way to late reading. ( Yes I am guilty of it ). I call this sci-fi, romance, partly apocalyptic book. I will tell you it ends on a cliffhanger. But it is okay. Just means there will be more. All I can say is, buy it, get a beer ( or beverage of choice. It is hot here so cold beer worked for me ) snuggle down and begin.

Population

This isn’t the type of book I go out of my way to read but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The personalities of the characters were well established and were maintained throughout the twisting, suspenseful plot that the author created. She created an imagery to such an extent that I could see portions of the story within the scenery in my commute to and from work. The descriptiveness of her writing would make it easy to convert the story into a screenplay. I am looking forward to the sequel(s).

We need book 2!

This review comes from the Urban Paranormal Book Blog

It's action packed from start to finish. You feel tense while reading it because around every single corner is trouble. Later, when Kane and Abel reunite, and things slow down for Abel, that's when we really start to learn about Kane, The Others, and what that key is for. And the fight at the end? I'm living for that fight!

There is a sex scene in the book. It's tastefully written with none of the trouble words that I just freaking hate. There's a cliffhanger ending so book 2 definitely must happen. I mean ... I cant ... After that ... I just can't ... I need to know. There are a lot of details I didn't mention on purpose. There are a lot of levels I didn't mention on purpose. It really is a thrill ride from start to finish that you need to hop on.

So please, Elizabeth ... Tell us when book 2 is coming out. We need this!

Barely Okay and Needs Serious Editing

This novel was barely okay. I found the plot very predictable, and the characters were pale imitations of characters in much better novels. Also, the book needs some serious editing. For example, on page 1, the main character (Abel) describes Ashlyn's "pale heart-shaped face," but on page 3 she says Ashlyn has "hard lines in a square face." In addition, on page 2 Abel states that Ashlyn has "glossy blue eyes," but on page 9 she says Ashlyn has "dark brown eyes." As I said, barely okay.

Waiting on part 2 with tiptoe anticipation!

I've read this book twice now in anticipation of part 2. Such a great read! Also love the diversity and how it deals with the issues a woman might encounter in an apocalypse. Just love it! Especially how Kane & Abel fall for each other. Can't say it enough, just a great book! Come on part 2!
