Features & Highlights

  • A WALKING NIGHTMARE—IN SIZE-NINE STILETTOS . . .
  • The officer responding to a 911 call at one of Houston’s hippest high-rises expected the worst. After all, domestic violence situations can be unpredictable. But nothing could’ve prepared him for what he found: a beautiful woman drenched in blood . . . an older man lying dead on the floor . . . and a cobalt blue suede stiletto with tufts of white hair stuck to its five-and-a-half-inch heel.
  • With her stunning looks, magnetic personality, and erratic behavior, Ana Trujillo had a notorious reputation on the downtown Houston scene. She spoke often of occult powers, though few knew how deeply she believed such boasts. Stefan Andersson was a gentle soul, a Swedish transplant with a good career and trusted friends, who was desperate to find someone special. Theirs is a story of obsession, madness, and tragedy. Because once Stefan fell head over heels for Ana, he was under her control—and he didn’t have a chance in hell.

Ho hum, good for insomnia.

I confess, I didn't finish this tedious and pointless story. For a while I kept reading it for want of something to occupy my time when waiting at appointments. Frankly, I found neither character interesting at all. It is just silly that the victim had no idea why his marriage broke up, even as he endlessly claimed to any and all that he so desired children and a family life. Huh??? So he's got this young lovely wife at home wanting children but he spends every moment of his free time sitting in bars getting soused. He was a total drunk in every sense, did drugs - the author tried and failed to make the drug use sound of little consequence. Yeah, right we all know better. So, in some sleazy bar the victim meets a real loser of a slut who's mental illness is patently obvious to every one who ever was victimized by her. Of course, her charm was in her fabulous good looks, and her generosity with the money and goods she stole from everyone. What's not to like? Beauty, willingness to sleep with whomever, and generous to boot, as long as it's not her money.

So, for some reason k Casey chose this true crime to write about. Must be slim pickings out there for stories. Most of the book irritated the heck out of me, because I got tired of reading about how gorgeous this snake was, and on and on and on and on about those stupid stilettos - what was up with that??? Big deal! It's as if that's the whole point of choosing this murder to write about. Are we readers supposed to be gobsmacked and titilated because the dumb drunk was whacked by shoes? What is the moral of the story - warning, if you're fairly well off and you like to drink yourself stupid every night, love to have at your pad to live a violent unemployed crazy lady, make sure she doesn't wear
Stilleto heels when she's angry with you? Really, I couldn't figure out the point of this at all. After the murder, KC never tired of beating this to dust - page after page of rehashing the same story until I just put the book aside and never bothered to find out if, how, and when this nut job was arrested or tried, or convicted, or whatever. Couldn't care less.
I normally LOVE K Casey's books, always look forward to new ones. But maybe she was in a dry spell, couldn't find anything more riveting, or
Characters worth caring about.

photo copy like pictures are terrible

I am enjoying the book itself, so far, but the grainy, photo copy like pictures are terrible.

When nice guys die!

Amazing yet disturbing account of a relationship gone terribly wrong. Stefan was a "good guy" and his fault of being nice to others led him to his death. Never understood how people can commit murder and even more astounding is how someone can take a life of a "friend". Well told Kathryn Casey!

Too Long

Spoilers. Beware. My apologies to the author for three stars but two stars got lopped off because the book was horrifically redundant. The effort to write this book is more than impressive. The details and meticulous research, mind bending. Unbelievable patience and determination was required. She must enjoy her work, because it would have been impossible to have written this with simply work ethic. But that said, I read the first 50% with sustained interest, to the point where Stephan is killed. At that point everything was pretty well covered. The final 50% mostly repeated the first 50% and just didn't hold my attention. So I skipped most of it. I just needed to see that she was found guilty and sentenced to life.

Very good read..

Well written..but I do not agree about her being beautiful...no way! She is not even pretty. I think she is a luney and deserved to serve everyday she was given. She is Evil! I hope she never gets out because she would do it again!

Kathryn Casey disappoints!!

I ordered this book because I love Kathryn Casey! I couldn't have been more disappointed. I tried THREE times to get through the first couple of chapters. While it wasn't "boring" per se, it certainly wasn't like her other books.
