The fun continues...

Princess Mia is back and better than ever! For fans of the first book, The Princess Diaries, the next in the series, Princess in the Spotlight, will offer more fun and excitement. A great series for girls (or grown-ups!) with an easy, breezy style that keeps the pages turning!
Mia Thermopolis is trying her best to be a simple teenager despite the fact she is the sole heir to a small European principality, the country of Genovia. Her gawkiness and typical teenage angst is the prime target of Mia's grandmere, who has been giving her "princess lessons" after school. But then things start happening that rock the already shaky world that Mia has now come to know. First her mother makes a shocking announcement that leads Mia to spend days obsessing over. After that, grandmere sets up an interview for Mia -- on national television. But the icing on the cake -- Mia's new secret admirer. Who is the boy behind the mystery e-mails? Is it her crush, Michael? Or the annoying, violin playing Russian, Boris? Or -- gasp! -- could it be the boy that complains about the corn in his chili?!
Princess in the Spotlight is a fun read that will have readers laughing off their seats. A cute story that breathes with life. Teenagers will be able to relate with most of this story (irregardless of the princess thing), and grown-ups will have a great time reminiscing about the by-gone days of high school, crushes, and hanging with your friends. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Great sequel!

This was a great sequel to Princess Diaries. I now own both of them. What happens when Mia's mom gets pregnant with her algebra teacher? And what happens when Mia has to do a live interview on TV? What's going on with Mia and Michael? Read this book to find out! I truly recomend this book to the reader, who is into reading about another person's worries or troubles, or just the Princess Diaries fan! READ THIS BOOK!!

Princess Mia is back to make us laugh our butts off...

This book starts off almost immediately where the last one left us wanting more. There is only so much that a teenager can take, and if finding out that you were actually the heir to the throne of Genovia wasn't enough, or your mother dating your algebra teacher, or a grandmother who would put Satan to shame, then finding out that your mother is pregnant by said teacher will certainly land you in the loony bin. Plus, Mia is being courted by a secret admirer via email whom she thinks is her best friend Lilly's brother Michael who she has had a crush on for a looong time.

So continues the hilarious series that I just discovered and can't seem to get enough of. I love how Meg Cabot makes me feel like I'm reading all the notes that my friends wrote me in middle school, and of course the cat that eats socks and, according to her grandmother from hell, will steal your soul if he jumps on your chest. Such a great series that I'm glad I picked up today at the library. I've read the first two already today and I'm getting ready to read the third installment. I found out that Patricia Cabot, an historical romance writer, writes these great books, and I went and checked them out. I recommend this to everyone, even a romance reader like myself. Great fun!

Mama Mia!

The Princess in the Spotlight is a fiction/fantasy and is a very "up to date, modern, real life" book. I can relate to the book in some ways; but some of it is a once in a lifetime thing. For example, finding out that you are a Princess in some far, far, away land. But at the same time it keeps the "down to earth" quality that is throughout the book.

Meg Cabot, is the writer of many different books, including the Princess Diaries Series. Including, The Princess Diaries, Princess in the Spotlight, Princess in Love, Princess in Waiting, and the Princess Lessons. She also wrote All American Girl which is also about a girl inheriting the throne. Currently, Meg Cabot lives in New York with her husband and her one-eyed cat.

I would recommend this book to girls that are around 11-13 or 14, and some yonger girls would also probably be interested in this, except some or the words are hard to understand, but it would not be too hard.

Book two...

The plot of this book was pretty dry. Just when you think it's getting interesting, it gets a bit dull again. I would only recommend this book if you want to read the others in the series and be able to understand them.

The Funniest Book You'll Ever Read (next to David Letterman)

In the second book of The Princess Diaries 'thingy', it's even better, with more laughs, more events, and you won't feel cheated when you buy this book.
It starts out finding the whole thing about her mom having a baby. Then the sleepover at Lily's (she is so funny...), where they almost kill someone. Later, she recieves anonymous emails about a secret admirer, and finds out who it is at the end. Yup yup.
This is my favorite book of the series. Get it at the library, or buy it...it's a must read.

More of the same

Mia's life was just starting to get back to normal... or as normal as possible with her grandmother still insisting she attend princess lessons but that is all shattered when her mother announces she is pregnant. The father of the child is her algebra teacher, a subject which she still isn't doing all that well in. To make matters worse, her grandmother insists on planing an unwanted wedding for the soon to be parents. Mia's spirits are lifted when she starts to receive letters from a secret admirer, who she hopes is her long time crush, Michael.
This book is pretty much more of the same. If you liked the first one you'll like this one. It's kind of a transition book leading up to the major plot advancement of Mia's love life in the third book. What I love about this series is how the trivial stuff almost totally makes me forget about the princess plot, which would make a pretty boring book by itself. You may not enjoy this one quite as much as the first but it's still a really fun read.

bridging two great reads

This sequel to The Princess Diaries takes the next month of high school freshman Mia Thermopolis' life. October has Mia getting used to the daily princess lessons and constant publicity and bodyguards. Life is just getting bearable when her mother announces that she's pregnant¡¦with Mia's Algebra teacher's baby! Why, God, why?
Meanwhile, Mia's grandmother sets up a high profile TV interview that goes hopelessly awry. Mia is dealing with her embarrassment and the fallout at school when a secret admirer appears. Could it be the senior who Mia has crushed on forever? But Mia can't concentrate on that right now. Grandmere is on her case again, while her mother is in the throes of morning sickness, and her father is dating her interviewer. Why, God, why?
The book's strange adventures are redeemed by Mia's growing maturation and Meg Cabot's humor and memorable characters. It was very enjoyable and hilarious read in succession to the first volume, although it disappointed a bit on its own. Cabot seems to have been a little distracted from her main point, which is Mia. The wacky events in this sequel overshadow her at times and are far removed from those elements of realism that make these books a lovely visit down adolescent memory lane. A decent, entrertaining read, but recommended you read the first and third as well, in order. 2.5 stars
