Great family book & kiddos love it

We are a pretty healthy family, but needed to still clean up our eating habits. I have 3 kids & its only been 1 week but a great week. We made some recipes from the book that my kids really liked, we also made a chart so they could track their foods. It has helped me to switch beef for turkey & make healthy desserts like the frosty cupcakes with yogurt. Overall we like it & i think its just about making healthy choices over all. It will help you if you kiddo needs to lose weight but with all things it takes time, its not a quick change but thats better & healthier.

Very disappointed with the content

This book advocates using artificial sweeteners. Very disappointed with the content.

is Captain Crunch cereal really a green light?

With the fortification of food (food like substances) I can guess the next generation will have trouble identifying whole food from the food manufacturer's idea of food.

Helps get your children involved in healthy eating decisions

I have a very picky eater at my house so this book interested me in finding creative ways to get him to eat right and eat healthy. The green, yellow, red light system provides parents a creative and fun way to help their children learn healthy eating habits. The book includes breakfast, snack, lunch and dinner ideas for two weeks! Color pictures bring the easy, healthy and delicious recipes to life. Teaching your children about green, yellow and red light foods at home will allow them to make positive decisions away from home. The appendix in the back of Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right gives you the colors for hundreds of common foods making it easy to choose healthy alternatives for your children. There is even a chapter devoted to special occasions and eating out so your children can still enjoy Birthdays, Holidays and time out with their friends. Dr. Dolgoff's system allows kids to be kids and continue to eat their favorite foods in moderation.

Getting your children involved in healthy eating decisions is important, the green, yellow, red light system helps everyone in the family participate. The lessons taught in Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right are ones that will have you and your children living a healthier life tomorrow and beyond. Whether you are interested in encouraging weight loss or ways to change your families eating habits this book is for you. There is even an online component for adults and children that you can purchase to complement the book.

Good book

I like the fact that the word " diet" is not used and instead encourages healthy eating and nutrition. The suggestion for considering sweets, etc as special treats and not every day foods is a good idea. The charts would be a little time consuming for busy mothers.

Loved it

Great educational system for young children. Very clear and visual. A sticker chart with green, red, and yellow dot stickers may help little ones keep track.

Excellent Program for kids and their parents!

This books is a must-have for anyone trying to help an overweight child. I wrote about our experience with this program at [...], but the short version he lost 7 lbs. his first month! I would strongly recommend getting this book along with Dara Lynn Weiss's "The Heavy," where she talks about her experience with the program. Dealing with extra weight is difficult at any age, but especially as a kid. I am so glad we finally have a plan to help our son deal with it. Learning how to manage portions will benefit him the rest of his life, and Dolgoff teaches it in a way kids can grasp.
