A good read.

This is the story of a girl who is kidnapped while shopping at an outdoor market. It takes place in England. She comes from a wealthy family, and feels ungainly and unattractive. Her parents call the police, but upon receiving the ransom note, decide to keep it to themselves and pay the money to get their daughter back. The story explores feelings, the change of life-style because of the loss of the money to the kidnappers, and the aftermath of the kidnapping. It involves a lot more than i'm telling, but Deborah Moggach is a fine writer.
