  • James
  • Call me kinky, but there is nothing in the world that turns me on more than hearing a woman scream pleasurable obscenities as I make love to her. And that's exactly what my lovely wife, Cathy, was doing as I held onto her hips and plunged into her from behind. Our two boys, James Jr. and Michael, were with my mother for the weekend, and Cathy and I were taking advantage of their absence by spending some quality time together. We'd gone out to dinner with my buddy Brent and his fiancée, Alison, taken in a movie, then came home and finished off a bottle of wine before making love on the living room sofa. We were now on our second round in our bedroom, going at it like two lusty college students in heat.
  • "I love you, James," my wife moaned affectionately, clutching the sheets as one climax took over for another.
  • "I love you too," I growled back as my body stiffened and my own pleasure erupted.
  • Totally spent, Cathy lay flat on her stomach while I gently collapsed onto her back, gasping for air. After a brief recovery, I slid my sweat-soaked body off hers. She snuggled up next to me and I wrapped my arm around her, pulling her in close, her back to my front. I was so exhausted, I wanted to just close my eyes and let the sedative of sex take me to dreamland. But I couldn't do that because it was against the rules-rules we'd created almost two years ago to keep our marriage together. Rules that had made this the happiest two years of my life. Somehow, I was going to have to force myself to stay awake at least ten more minutes and talk to her before allowing myself the enjoyment of sleep.
  • I kissed her neck, whispering in her ear, "You okay? Do you want me to go down on you or anything?"
  • "No, baby. I'm fine just like this. All I want you to do is hold me." I did as I was told and she snuggled her backside against me. A few seconds later, I could hear her snoring lightly.
  • I loved Cathy more than anything in the world. Sure, we had our problems over the years like most couples. Hell, I even thought we were gonna divorce a few years ago, but we worked it out and things had never been better as far as I was concerned. I couldn't see myself with any other woman. I'd loved her since the day we met in our junior year at Virginia State University. She was my soul mate, and I'd do anything and everything to keep her and my boys safe and out of harm's way. I kissed her neck again, then dozed off to sleep.
  • I couldn't have been asleep more than five or ten minutes before my cell phone rang. Instinctively, I reached over and picked it up

The Good the Bad and the Ugly

I heard an interview with Weber about his most recent book, which wasn't available at the library yet, so I gave this one a try. It was okay.

Lots of soap operatic melodrama keeps the pages turning, and the plot is built on dramatizing real life problems (the unintended consequences of an affair, the problem of feeling like you've married the wrong person and the right one is trying to lure you away). I hung with it even though I lost patience and sympathy with most of the characters at some point. However, I HATED the ending--one of the main characters did not have enough backstory or development to explain why he would go so far off the deep end, leading to a (literally) heart stopping climax--and then the book ends with no denouement to show the other characters' reactions. Even worse, there's one more plot twist in the epilogue that made no sense at all, ruined one of the only truly sympathetic characters...and yet left me still curious to read the newest book because apparently that chracter plays a major role. How is that going to work?

It's an easy read and a page turner--those short chapters are like popcorn, hard to put down without "just one more"--but you have to have a tolerance for some unbelievable plot twists for the sake of plot twists, with no groundwork laid beforehand.

Lessons to be Taught

Best friends Sonny, Brent, and James have skeletons not shared even amongst their group. For Brent's marriage the group has gotten back together to catch up. Brent, revered by the ladies, has fallen for a voluptuous religious woman he has chosen as his bride. Not right with Brent's decision, one of the members of his church has decided to try and nip this marriage short.

Sonny has his own relationship problems when his wife sends him a letter that she is taking the kids and moving on with her life. Finding an ex from his past, he tries to start his life anew but his past can only be escaped for so long.

James abandoned his vows and had an affair a few years back while his marriage was on the rocks. Since then his relationship with his wife has strengthened and his love for her in undeniable. Now his ex-lover has popped back into the picture with a child she claims is his what is a man to do?

Carl Weber brings us a novel that will leave a reader stunned, no one can try to guess what each of these characters future has in store for them. This portrayal of urban life today shows some very real issues prevalent to the inner workings of this environment. Each of these three friends has a lesson to be taught and hopefully will open some eyes to readers who may need to examine themselves. This is not a book that can be read by anyone with a closed mind.

The twist and turns in So You Call Yourself a Man is enough to shake any reader up and get them talking. This novel has the ability to get any book group talking for hours. If a good shakeup from the norm is what your seeking this is the read for you. Carl Weber does an extraordinary job in capturing every detail in its moment, and leaving a reader anticipating each new step in the lives of each of these men.

Hot, Hot, and mor Hot

Exceptionally deceptive and beautiful. This is without question one of the top books I have read this year.He really did put a spin on an old trick. Something we thought we were all used to lies and cheating and accidental babies.. but all with such a twist that will shock you right out of your pants.. lol. I truly truly enjoyed this story. This is something that happens everyday if people would just open their eyes.. Yes, its right in front of you but we all try to deny it.We got to here the Man's side of the story. We all know women can be more conniving then men. There were plenty of times I had to stop myself from screaming out "That Bitch" Ok so I didn't stop myself.Dramatic and Sexy.

Packed with everything!!

This book was full of everything!! When it got to the middle I was like...what in the world is going on?!?!?! lol I read this book in about 7 hrs. It was full of drama and definitely a page turner. It was definitely a good read. I liked the fact that Mr. Weber told a story without giving obvious hints to what was REALLY going to happen. It made you thing in the middle of the story but you wanted to know what was happening with the next person so you didn't have time to dwell on what could be. I would definitely recommend this book. It's actually 4.5 stars but I messed myself up by reading a headliner of a review before starting the book; therefore, I was kind of expecting something to happen... I just didn't know what.

It was Awesome!!!

I couldn't get enough of this drama filled, page turning, suspense filled novel! This is one of the second best books that I've read. Of course, "The Coldest Winter Ever" is the best!!

Michelle is definitely a trip and her character was so REAL. Can you say, "Baby Mama Drama."

Sonny was crazy as a bat and Brent, "Oh well" he was a confused puppy.

I want to loan this book to my sister, but she may not return it. So I'm holding on to my treasure. LOL

This is a must READ!!!
