Description
I was inspired to write SOPHIE WASHINGTON: THE SNITCH when one of my kids didn't want to return to school after a holiday. A bully had been terrorizing several children in the class, but the students were afraid to report what was going on because they didn't want to be labeled "snitches." After asking around I realized that many of the children actually believed they were doing the correct thing by not tattling on the bully, despite the fact that he had threatened them with physical harm.xa0I want kids who read SOPHIE WASHINGTON: THE SNITCH to understand that it's okay to ask adults for help when they need it and that suffering at the hands of bullies is not the way to be popular. SOPHIE WASHINGTON: THE SNITCH deals with a serious topic, but like the other books in the Sophie Washington middle grade series for children ages 8-12, there are plenty of humorous moments too. I hope that readers will be entertained and even laugh out loud while they learn gentle lessons with Sophie and friends.
