Description

"A.B. Michaels is a strong writer who has created compelling, flawed but very likeable characters. xa0Even the more minor characters have interesting backstories, and are just as driven and complicated as the main characters...I think romance readers will enjoy this book, and probably this series, but readers of historical fiction will also like The Art of Love . It's also a quick read, mainly because once you start, you will not want to put it down." - Sabrina Ricci, Digital Pubbing What Amazon Readers are saying: "Heart touching and melting wonderful. Great tale of struggle and love. Every moment counts with this author. Amazing the way she evokes feelings!""The book is well written, well developed and well paced. Scenes are described so vividly they can be easily pictured. Characters are believable and emotions are heartfelt. An excellent book, highly recommended.""What an amazing story of grit, determination and love. This was truly a great read from beginning to end and I fell in love with both Gus and Lia. Thank you!""The Art of Love Origins of Sinner's Grove is a compelling story of love and second chances. Mrs. Michaels has created a series that will keep you up until the wee hours of the morning. This is the first book in the series and I for one can not wait to read more by this author.""Though this is only the second novel of hers that I've read, I'm even more gratified than I was after the first. Her character development, historical setting & plot line is such that I am totally enthralled. I read alot & it's been years since I've come across an author who displays such finesse at her craft. I highly recommend this author & can't wait to read more of her work.""The Art of Love: Origin of Sinner's Grove by A.B. Michaels weaves a story of love, lust, betrayal, and sacrifice that kept me on edge often unsure whether to cheer or boo a character's decisions as I waited to see if those decisions would succeed or fail." "Toward the end of the Gilded Age (the turn of the twentieth century), San Francisco was an exciting new presence on the world stage - a metropolis built with money from those who'd struck it rich in California and the Klondike. Such wealth and opportunity earned San Francisco one of its many nicknames - "The Golden City."xa0 I grew up near San Francisco, so it was a logical setting for my series, but it was only after researching that particular time period that I discovered so much fascinating history, from the rise of modern art and architecture to the plight of immigrants and the incredible advances in medicine and technology. Throw in the natural disaster for which the city is famous, and you have the ingredients for the kind of page-turning historical fiction I like to write." A native of California, A.B. Michaels holds masters' degrees in history (UCLA) and broadcasting (San Francisco State University). After working for many years as a promotional writer and editor, she turned to writing fiction, which is the hardest thing she's ever done besides raising twoxa0active boys. She lives with her husband and two spoiled dogs in in Boise, Idaho, where she is often distracted by playing darts and bocce, learning pinochle, and trying to hit a golf ball more than fifty yards. Reading and travel figure into the mix, leading her to hope that sometime soon, someone invents a 25+ hour day. Her historical fiction series, "The Golden City," explores America's Gilded Age and its effect on characters, both actual and fictional, while her contemporary series, "Sinner's Grove," follows descendants of The Golden City as they navigate today's equally treacherous waters.xa0xa0She is currently expanding both series. Inspirational and absorbing

One of the main things I like about this book is the author’s emphasis through her characters on being true to yourself and others rather than just doing what family and society thinks is best.

The Art of Love: Origins of Sinner’s Grove would be a great gift or ideal purchase for
* artists of any type
* tourists in the Yukon, California Gold Country or San Francisco Bay area
* anybody making a career choice. It would help them understand the importance of following their dreams.
* anybody contemplating marriage
* anybody interested in California history
* anybody who likes compelling stories about genuine love

Besides being an inspiring and absorbing romance novel, this book also lives up to its title of demonstrating the Art of Love.

Romance with assortment of supporting characters

The color and textures of relationships, conflicts, sacrifices and personal passions are the story layers woven together in The Art of Love. Although Gus and Lia are the central romantic focus the cast of supporting characters provides more depth to the story as they console, argue, and present opportunities that move the plot along. Wondering what the next plot twist will be and where it will lead and the setting of San Francisco Bohemian art scene at turn of the 20th century makes for a very good read.

Art and suspense woven together into a period romance

The Art of Love: Sinners Grove skillfully introduces us to the individual stories of Lia and Gus, melding their lives together in a suspenseful final section of the book. Gus is self made-man rising from poverty in the harshness and vagaries of the Yukon goldrush and Lia is an artist escaping the expectations and lifestyles of the New York wealthy. As their lives intertwine A. B. Michaels introduces us to the color and vibrant nature of San Francisco at the turn of the century. Entertaining, captivating and hard to put down. An impressive debut novel that leaves me looking forward to the next book in the series.

A Great Love Story

In the first book of a trilogy, The Art of Love, we are introduced to Augustus Wolff, a struggling prospector in the Klondike in 1896. We also meet Lia Bennett, a promising artist who is entering a marriage of convenience to save her family from financial ruin. Their lives cross several years later in San Francisco after both suffered great loss.
The characters were faced with very difficult decisions and they did not always chose what I would have wanted them to, and that made the book even more interesting. Their decisions were made based on love and loyalty that the author was able to clearly explain to the reader.
The descriptions of gold mining in the Yukon, life in San Francisco, and the East Coast at the turn of the century were beautifully written. The description of “Sinner’s Cove” makes me eager for the next book.
This is a masterfully written romance set in an exciting time period. Overall, the book is a story of loyalty, people trying to do what is right, and the search for love.
I would highly recommend the book.

Great read!

At first, The Art of Love reminded me of a combination of Lonesome Dove and Pride and Prejudice. Within a few chapters the Gus had grown on me, with all the lovable qualities young gold prospector. As I traveled with him through heartbreak and wealth and I found myself excited for the moment when he would finally meet his match. The second part of the book introduced me to Lia, a woman with a proper upbringing whose strength is apparent as she deals with the fallout from the social norms of the early 1900s. I liked the careful way A.B. Michaels created the history of her characters and then let the action unfold. If you are in the mood for a fun historical romance with dashes of loss and passion then I highly recommend this read!

Enjoyable, entertaining and educational!

From the beginning, I became absorbed in the story and swept up in the emotions of the characters in this well-written, historical romance. It's every woman's dream to be loved in such a way by a man who is immediately enthralled by her, loves her deeply for who she is and would go to incredible lengths to make her his. This story will not disappoint even the most deeply romantic! Interwoven in the storyline are well-researched facts and interesting information about the Klondike Gold Rush, historical sites of San Francisco, and just how difficult it was to extricate oneself from a difficult marriage at the turn of the century. Enjoyable, entertaining and educational. I can't wait to read the sequels!
