PRAISE FOR THE DARK ANGELxa0xa0 "Griffiths deftly balances the plotlines at home and abroad to deliver another hugely satisfying and entertaining Galloway mystery full of atmosphere and loose ends...this tenth addition to the series (after The Chalk Pit ) is one of the best! The story lines are confidently interwoven, the Italian scenery is vividly drawn, and Ruth and Nelson’s relationship becomes yet more complicated, leaving readers eager for the next installment." —Library Journal “Rich details about the Italian countryside, gastronomy, and history.”xa0 — Publishers Weekly "There is a charming old-home-week feel to this Italian adventure. The humor is well placed, as are the insightful forays into Italy’s history and people, but the gripping ending leaves no doubt that this is, above all, a mystery...A sure bet for fans of strong-minded women and wry humor in the tradition of Rhys Bowen and M.C. Beaton" — Booklist, STARRED review PRAISE FOR ELLY GRIFFITHS AND THE RUTH GALLOWAY SERIESxa0xa0 Winner of the Mary Higgins Clark Awardxa0 Winner of the CWA Dagger in the Library Awardxa0xa0 "Galloway is an everywoman, smart, successful and a little bit unsure of herself. Readers will look forward to learning more about her." — USA Today "Elly Griffiths draws us all the way back to prehistoric times…Highly atmospheric." — The New York Times Book Review "Forensic archeologist and academic Ruth Galloway is a captivating amateur sleuth-an inspired creation. I identified with her insecurities and struggles, and cheered her on. " — Louise Penny, author of the bestselling Armand Gamache series "These books are must-reads." — Deborah Crombie, author of the Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James series "[Ruth Galloway's] an uncommon, down-to-earth heroine whose acute insight, wry humor, and depth of feeling make her a thoroughly engaging companion." — Erin Hart, Agatha and Anthony Award nominated author of Haunted Ground and Lake of Sorrows "Ruth Galloway is a remarkable, delightful character…A must-read for fans of crime and mystery fiction." — Associated Press "Rich in atmosphere and history and blessed by [Griffith's] continuing development of brilliant, feisty, independent Ruth...A Room Full of Bones, like its predecessors, works its magic on the reader's imagination." — Richmond Times-Dispatch "Lovers of well-written and intelligent traditional mysteries will welcome [Griffith's] fourth book…A Room Full of Bones is a clever blend of history and mystery with more than enough forensic details to attract the more attentive reader." — Denver Post — ELLY GRIFFITHS is the author of the Ruth Galloway and Brighton mystery series, as well as the standalone novels The Stranger Diaries, winner of the Edgar Award for Best Novel, and The Postscript Murders . Just as she’s getting her footing in the dig, DCI Nelson appears, unexpectedly and for no clear reason. When Ruth’s findings lead her and her crew to a modern-day murder, their holiday turns into anything but as they race to find out what darkness is lurking in this seemingly peaceful place. . .and who may be on their trail.

Please, no more Nelson

Until now every Ruth Galloway book has easily been 5-stars, but now that Nelson even shows up in Italy, I am no longer able to tolerate his presence; Ruth must be capable of having a life without his omnipresence and for me this invasiveness has become exhausting. [It is reasonable for Nelson to have a relationship with his daughter, so the occasional 'drop-in' visit would be anticipated.] I have preordered the two books that are soon to become available and am at the crossroads of cancelling the orders now or waiting to see if Nelson again has a prominent position. I am curious about Dr. Galloway's future with the American citizen, but . . . . it appears to me that the likelihood of Nelson appearing is at least 110%.

Full of Intrigue

After finishing The Chalk Pit (book 9 in Elly Griffiths’ Ruth Galloway series) I couldn’t wait find out what happened next. I think the author felt the same way, because this book literally picks up hours after the last one ended. Therefore it retains the same momentum and emotional turmoil.

After the death of her mother and Michelle’s baby announcement, Dr Ruth Galloway just wants to get away. A former colleague in Italy offers just that when he asks he to come look at some Roman bones. He even has an apartment available for Ruth, her daughter Kate, friend Shona and Shona’s son Louis to stay. Sounds like a perfect working holiday.

But things are never how you expect them. Ruth’s friend, Angelo, thinks someone is trying to kill him. An earthquake brings to light a body that was lost during WW2. Add in a visit from Nelson and the murder of a priest, and Italy starts to feel less like a holiday and more like a normal Norfolk mystery.

Back in Norfolk, there is a released convict who previously threatened revenge. Circumstantial evidence points to a connect with a stranger outside Nelson’s home and a poisoned dog. Can Judy keep everyone safe while the boss is away, or will Nelson regret rushing to check on Ruth and Kate forever?

I won’t give away anymore spoilers. The fast pace of events kept me on my toes and unable to put down the book. Elly Griffiths never fails to write an intriguing mystery.

Great addition to the series

OK, yes, I do wish Ruth would figure things out with her policeman lover, but this is a fun mystery series, never easy to figure out, but believable, with a cast of fascinating characters. The archaeological back ground is very well done. Don't start with this book - the series must be read in order.
