Features & Highlights

  • A true classic of American literature, The Great Gatsby celebrates a heightened sensibility to the promises of life, an American capacity for hope that remains unsullied even by the falsity of what it pursues. Fitzgeralds clean, elegant style evokes to perfection the glitter and charm of the Jazz Age, as well as the falseness of its values. Gatsby embodies the naïve American notion that it is possible to invent oneself and persuade the world to accept that definition. Gatsbys youthful neighbor, Nick Carraway, fascinated by both the display of enormous wealth and the essential integrity that he perceives in Gatsbys vision, becomes his confidante and accomplice in his plan to capture the heart of Daisy Buchanan.

Classic novel, but disappointed at quality of CD media

This is a four CD audiobook set. Two of the discs were scratched and skipped when played. I had to copy the CDs to iTunes using error correcting software so that I could enjoy the story. Disappointing quality of media!

One of the Great Stories of its Era

I reread this recently and loved it so much more than when I had to read it in high school. Fitzgerald's humor is so much more subtle than most humor writer's today and the funny lines are tucked between such beautifully crafted prose. The story is so simple - basically just describes a few parties at a mysterious Gatsby's mansion - but the humor and just enough foreshadowing keep you wanting to move forward. His observations of the young rich would fit in almost perfectly today. Inspired me to get back to writing my own book!

Great audio book!

The voice of the reader was perfect. I was not familiar with the story and really enjoyed my daily commute while listening to this classic.

Unexpected

Well acted, but the actor's voice seemed too old to play 25 year-old Nick, so I was distracted and my students were confused.

Great Gatsby CDs

I placed the order to help out a disabled student and it arrived with plenty of time for the student to get going on the assigned reading. As far as I know, the CDs were in good shape, but the package was pretty misshapen and beat up by the time it arrived. A padded envelope might be the ticket next time.
