Not many likeable characters

I like a book in which the main character has, well, character. Brooke is a disappointment from beginning to end. I like her babysitter better. The young Black woman had a chip on her shoulder the size of a boulder and her animosity and hostility were irksome. The old lady was portrayed as some horrible woman. Even the author seemed to think what she did was awful, yet when put into proper context it was obvious what she did was done from a place of love and yes, privilege, but it’s tiresome listening to people ranting about things they way they were 80 years ago. In another 80 years this generation may be judged just as harshly-but let’s pray not. It’s time to stop judging altogether. Which is really what this whole book is all about. Oh yes, and Brooke’s lawyer friend and that twist in the plot? Ridiculous! Too politically intrusive, characters not compelling, relationships among the characters flat, romance with Brook’s baby’s father-as bland as baby oatmeal cereal.

Don’t waste your time

Glad I only paid a few dollars fir this turd at a resale store for this. I made it about 50ish pages in and couldn’t handle the writers socio-political agenda being pushed. The storyline is meh as well. This is not a beach read which is what I wanted.

Fun story that has it all!

This book is very good. It has everything you could be looking for. Myster, love, friendship, loyalty… you name it, it’s probably in here. Best part is that it’s all told through an extremely well written story.
Josephine Warrick, an eccentric and notoriously reclusive heiress, lives in a pink mansion that has seen better days on a private island and is whispered about but rarely seen. When struggling young lawyer Brooke Trappnell is called to the island by the 90 some year old heiress she has absolutely no idea what she is in for. She begins to listen to the stories that Josephine tells her and finds herself absorbed in the tales of old friendships, a mysterious murder, and dark secrets. Brooke realizes that she is there for two reasons; to protect the island and to make amends with Josephine’s old friends who were all a part of The High Tide Club.
In order to fulfill the wishes of a dying woman, Brooke has to track down the descendents of Joshephine’s old friends and bring them together. When this happens, Brooke uncovers a scandal that could make one person very, very rich or cause them to perish in the crosshairs of a murderer.
If you like this author’s books you’ll like this one. If you haven’t read any by her this isn’t a bad place to start. It’s laced with all the Southern charm you could want and it’s just plain fun and fantastic.

Could Not Put it Down

I bought this for my mom initially. I was wondering why she gave me dirty looks every time I interrupted her reading this book. A week ago, I picked it up and I understood. The story takes a bit of time to establish itself, but it was a great and highly entertaining read. Would recommend!
