Grippping race

Nicholas Drummond and Michaela Caine are back to save the world - this time from a former astronaut who claims to have contacted aliens ...
This storyline mixes the delusions of a woman and the so-called heaven stone or Holy Grail. Both fascinating topics.
Mike and Nicholas get involved in this case when their friend Grant is lost while protecting a wealthy businessman/adventurer after the ship disappears with all hands - and ends up in the middle of an attempt to take over the world. Once the chase is on, Mike and Nicholas race to avert Armageddon.
My only criticism is that there is a slow start - but once everything starts moving it moves at a frantic pace. The storyline is very believable and caused hours of lost sleep (one more chapter syndrome).
Sadly, Ms. Coulter has stated this is the last book in the series - gonna miss Nicholas and Mike.

This was one of my favorite Brit in the FBI books so far!

I absolutely adore Catherine Coulter and this book did not disappoint! So much action Drummond and Caine (And Grant Thornton here and there) race against time to save the world once again. This time we have a psychotic former astronaut bent on helping the Numen (beings she claims to have met while in space) come to Earth using a EMP and nuclear bomb to make this happen. From start to finish this book had me hooked! I can’t wait to see where Mike and Nicholas end up next!

Boring, couldn’t get thru it

I’ve been a Coulter fan since her 1st FBI books. I read 1 Ellison book and found it hard to get thru. I should have stopped after the 1st 2 books by Coulter/Ellison. This was flat and I got bored. Very disappointing. I’m pretty much done w/this series.

waste of money

I could not get to a point where it became interested. Ghost writer fail. Ann Coulter should re-think using ghost writers,,

An implausible disappointment

I like my thrillers to be plausible, and in this case I was disappointed. While the premise of The Last Second was somewhat believable (megalomaniacal scientist outsmarts everyone and nearly destroys Earth), the execution was not. There were too many elements of fantasy (not even mentioning the actual Holy Grail), too many glib occurrences of skating past insurmountable obstacles in impossible time spans.

And the characters: Each of them was either all good, chipper, optimistic, inhumanly capable, or else unremittingly evil. No complexity. As I said, a disappointment. Thanks to NetGalley for an advance readers copy. Sorry I couldn't be more enthusiastic.

Black marker across the pages on top of the book.

My aunt requested this book for her birthday. This is listed as new and mostly looks new, but when I received the book I was dismayed to see a couple of lines made by a marker, usually a way of discounting a book. If this was for me I wouldn't care as much, but where it's a gift and was not labeled anything other than "New" I'm really bothered by this. Weighing the option of returning it and getting her something to replace it.

Not my favorite Coulter book

I have read each and every book in both of Coulter's FBI series. This book was by far my least favorite. It had many lulls and was hard to finish.
