Description

R.A. Salvatore was born in Massachusetts in 1959. He is the New York Times– bestselling author of more than forty novels, including the popular Forgotten Realms series, The Legend of Drizzt. His love affair with fantasy, and with literature in general, began during his sophomore year of college when he was given a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings as a Christmas gift. He promptly changed his major from computer science to journalism.xa0He began writing seriously in 1982, penning the manuscript that would become Echoes of the Fourth Magic . His first published novel was The Crystal Shard from TSR in 1988, and his novel The Silent Blade won the Origins Award. He is still best known as the creator of dark elf Drizzt Do’Urden, one of fantasy’s most beloved characters.

Features & Highlights

  • Drizzt navigates a winding path littered with secrets and lies in this suspenseful conclusion to the Neverwinter Saga

Will he be forced to fight the darkness alone? Either way, he knows now where he’s headed—back to the only place that’s ever felt like home.  Meanwhile, in the caverns of Gauntlgrym, the drow Tiago Baenre enlists the help of the Bregan D’aerthe in his quest to destroy his grandfather’s killer: Drizzt Do’Urden. While making promises they may not keep, the agents of the elite drow mercenary group hide plans of their own . . .

If you like Drizzt then buy this book

If you're a fan of the characters then you've already read all the books prior to this one and you'll enjoy this one too. It's got wonderful characters, great action, and the setting we've all come to love.

I think there were a couple of times where the author jumped around a bit or sped certain things up, particularly at the end, almost like he was trying to rush to finish for a deadline. My only other complaint is that when the series began many decades ago, it was very much fantasy. It was medieval times with fantasy creatures added in. Now, it's very modern. Sure, things are medievalish. But magic is now so pervasive that tactically normal things no longer matter. Communication on great distances is easy. People cross planes. Dimensional portals. Magic healing. etc. There's no more feel of the muck and grime that made medieval times what it was. Instead it almost feels science fictiony except with more swords. Don't take any of my criticisms as hating the book or series. Far from it. I love the books and am definitely going to keep reading on, I just miss the old very fantasy setting.

so dissapointed.

i'm pretty much on board with all the negative reviews i've seen on here. mainly the pointless plot lines that go nowhere(vampire pwent for example) the whole year the arguably most dangerous warrior in faerun was resined to being draygo quicks prisoner and didnt try to escape once was very uncharacteristic of drizzt. the random 18 year nap they all took for no apparent reason. the random forrest linking drizzt to cattie-bri and regis for a possible healing reunion which never happened which then dissapeared just as quickly as it was being developed and with no explanation as to why it dissapeared or how drizzt new it was gone forever or why it was there in the firstplace. the build up of errtus return only to be dispatched like a two bit second rate villain by tiago and his chronies. as far as the fight between drizzt and dhalia i knew that was comming and am fine with it.. but the whole is drizzt alive is he dead left me cursing. the way his companions all just left and went their own way never seeing drizzt again all within a couple of pages. the whole last quarter of the book seemed very rushed. and it's happened beforer(the way cattire-brie and regis were killed off was very out of the blue and unfufilling and the first time i noticed this rushed writing )and i dont know if it's entirley salvatores fault. i feel like the heads of D@D mess with his writing. like he seems to get going with a great story then they give him a call and are like "oh hey salvatore..sorry to tell you last minute buddy buuuut we have a new game comming out and are making changes so you have to totally change your entiiiire story to go in line with said game. sorry for the late notice talk to ya later byyyye buuuuddy" really pisses me off and is ruining the books!! i first saw this happening when cattie brie and regis all of a sudden die for no reason out of the blue because of the spellplauge and now it's only getting worse. but things i did like about the story were the development of the relationship between entrari and dhalia and i liked afrenfrere the monk. he seems like an interesting character and he had some good fight scenes.(namley when he pulls a sea devil halfway out of a window by it's spine than lands a crushing downward elbow breaking it's neck!!) i would like to see him developed more in the future. he could be a bad ass. but yeah...dissapointing book. i like the entire neverwinter series but it ended with a confusing fizzle and not the bang i'd hoped for.

Great

The Drittz stories are a great read for D&D fans to people who want a good adventure story with characters you care about. The books themselves are made very well and can handle wear and tear from active reading.

Unfit ending for one of fantasy’s greatest heroes...

WEAK SAUCE DUDE...This is the absolute worst Drizzt book in the Saga... the ending is so bad it’s laughable... Thank God I read a library copy... I would have been pissed buying this trash... Salvatore invests page after page working me up for the “Ultimate Showdown with Tiago Baenre and his new magic weapons vs Drizzt... NEVER F-ING happens... there are so many story lines that are left incomplete... it’s like reading the 1st book in a series... unfit ending for one of fantasy’s greatest heroes...
