Goes along great, then instant train wreck.

After having enjoyed the first book of thise 2-book series, I was excited to dive right into the second and continue the journey. It was going great, a lot of time was being spent on the journey from the location of the first book, and the intended destination... and I started to become concerned when I reached past the middle of the book and it was still unfolding the journey.

I started to think "how can this be a 2-book series with so little left for the destination?".

My worries came true when suddenly I was on a journey, and then it felt like I skipped a few important chapters and was fast approaching the destination. I looked back, looked at the page numbers, checked the chapter numbers... but nope, there was nothing I accidentally skipped. It just flat out "skipped a huge hunk of story" somewhere after the 3/4ths mark.

So I read on, kind of annoyed by the lack of "everything that just happened was swept under the rug and completely forgotten about". Maybe it would come around sometime in the next few paltry chapters. Nope... never came around, nothing covered or hinted at.

On top of the skipped story and feeling completely lost, the entire ending destination chapters were a complete mess of random haphazard nonsense that made no sense, was so out of character, and gone completely sideways. Then it just sorta ends. Completely without any fanfare, or real explanation of anything. Almost like the destination was just a brain fart to be ignored, and really the whole story was about 'just getting there'. Sure, I could live with that, if thats how it was written to be. However the entire story was all about this destination!

To be honest, how it read and what it felt like, is that the author planned on a proper 3-book series. She was writing this second book as "the journey" (the first being "the preparation"), and the third would be all about this mysterious "destination and result". Then, the authors publisher pulled the plug and said they would only carry a 2-book series, and so heart broken and lost, the author just tosses ending chapters, and throws together a rushed finale and closes the book with an absurd epilogue.

Sad too. This series was really shaping up and enjoyable, till it skipped and derailed so badly.
