Description

“ The Other Woman is one of summer’s biggest titles.... It’s not hard to see why: This story of love and betrayal… is hard to put down.” — Entertainment Weekly “Another jewel in the bedazzling crown of a spy-fiction master....There is an even more elaborately detailed backstory than usual, and it is every bit as compelling as the tension-drenched drama slowly unspooling in the present and leading to a socko finale.” — Booklist, starred review “Excellent….Readers will be enthralled by both the history and the up-to-the-minute plot that Silva spins with such finesse.” — Publishers Weekly, starred review “Always riveting….Gripping.” — Kirkus, starred review “Perhaps his most enthralling novel to date. Twists, turns, and nonstop action fill every page.... An instant classic from Daniel Silva, whose latest masterpiece puts him firmly alongside le Carré and Forsyth as one of the greatest spy novelists of all time.” — The Real Book Spy “If someone were to ever commission the building of a Mount Rushmore for thriller writers, Daniel Silva’s face would surely be featured on it… The Other Woman is an instant classic from Daniel Silva, who continues building his legacy as one of the greatest spy novelists the genre has ever known.” — CrimeReads “Silva has a knack for topically relevant novels, and The Other Woman is no exception.” — New York Post ’s 25 Best Thrillers of the Summer Praise for House of Spies : “A tense, thrilling adventure.... With Silva’s novels you find yourself being educated as well as being entertained.... Silva is that rarity of rarities, a writer whose stories just keep getting better.” — Huffington Post “Silva spins his web, lays his traps, stuns the reader with mind-curdling suspense and sudden twists.... Breathtaking.” — Providence Journal “An irresistible thriller…. The phrase ‘#1 New York Times best-selling author’ gets bandied about a lot (Which list? For how long?), but in Silva’s case, it means exactly what it says.” — Booklist, starred review “Silva’s success lies in his mix of authenticity and charm; his swings from global fears to domestic comforts.… There’s exotic scenery, insight into both history and current events, wit, romance, and a lot of heart.... It’s a recipe that keeps his readers coming back for more.” — Pittsburgh Post-Gazette “Written by one of our greatest living spy novelists, House of Spies gives us protagonist Gabriel Allon in his 17th adventure. The novel features Silva’s taut and compelling dialogue and keen insight into the human psyche.” — Dallas Morning News She was his best-kept secret. . . . Stop with the politics

I have read several of Silva's Gabriel Allon novels. Up to this point I have enjoyed them. Much like John Grisham, Silva is obviously a liberal. No bigee. For some reason he enjoys taking not very veiled shots at the President. These are totally unnecessary and so nothing other than annoy conservative readers. I may read older novels that are not so political but I will not read any newer books. The story itself was typical of the characters and was entertaining up to a point. Still the anti-Trump cheap shots have soured me on this writer.

A slow slog, polluted by Silva's toxic politics

I have read the previous 17 Gabriel Allon books, and enjoyed them thoroughly. Ironically, Silva states at one point in The Other Woman that spies function best without political convictions. Silva should know the same applies to spy novel writers. Silva's toxic anti-Trump derangement has defiled his previously great writing reputation. Now that Gabriel is the chief of the Office, it appears he is more into mundane, ancient history of betrayal by spies than into ensuring the bad guys get rubbed out. Silva is driving a stake through the heart of the Gabriel Allon franchise with this low-action, convoluted tale that is sadly hampered with radioactive left wing politics.

I could definitely put this one down

"The Other Woman" isn't up to Silva's usual standards. This novel was semi-boring throughout much of it. Silva spends too much time delving into ancient history, as with the background of Kim Philby. There's very little action or excitement. Mostly just snooze stuff. I put the book down for days at a time before picking it up again. In short, it just isn't a page-turner. Even though I really like the Gabriel Allon series, I think Silva has run out of material or is just burned out. My advice? Get it from the library.

Good!

This was my first Daniel Silva novel. I ordered this title because I heard it was his best book. I don't know if that's true, but it certainly lived up to my expectations. Really a good read. I've already ordered two more of his books.

Lost his touch

I used to enjoy Silva’s books but this one just went on and on with nothing to hold onto. Boring and just plain meh. To make matters worse he decided to take jabs at the President. He obviously wants everyone to know how he feels about him. It was so gratuitous that I decided I don’t want to read any more of his books.

A great read!

I enjoyed the book overall, but it came with pages 325 to 331 missing. It took a while after that to get back into the story.
