Description

" The President really overwhelmed me. It is possibly the most powerful book I've ever read."Lee A. Catts"Having just completed your second novel, The President , I can truly say that it is a masterpiece thematic presentation of the relationship between God, mankind and the force of evil in our lives. xa0Like Grisham, it opens with a Wow and keeps on building."John M. Stone"This is by far THE best novel I have read in my life. Not only is it powerful, but downright convicting." -Kathleen Smith, Reviews From The Heart Thomas Nelson, the publishers of On The Edge , turned down The President twenty-five years ago because it was "too edgy". xa0Multnomah immediately picked it up and published it in hardback as a major release, because they thought it was "prophetic". xa0Three years later they re-published the novel in a softcover version, which we have updated in 2019 along with the 25th anniversary of On The Edge . Now of course it is also available as an e-book--and the early bad conversion edits have now been corrected!xa0But in all three versions, the novel reads like today's newspapers. xa0Don't miss the State of the Union address. My wife and I live in Atlanta with the joys and challenges of a large family. My day job is in the investment real estate business. But I've been researching and writing about faith, government and business for over twenty years, including three novels, an anthology of short stories, and five years of blog poste..After attending London School of Economics as a Marshall Scholar (1968-70), I served for three years as the Communications and Intelligence Officer on the USS Wainwright (CG-28), based in Charleston, S.C. Since then I've logged a lot of years in all aspects of investment real estate, in both the U.S. and Russia. Parenting, grandparenting, and writing are my passions.I like the power of good fiction because it engages the whole person--intellect, emotion, spirit. The reader becomes caught up in the characters and the events, and is forced to consider issues and outcomes that go beyond everyday facts and figures. Fiction based on real truth can be transformational. Read more

Features & Highlights

  • The President is a gripping action thriller with a strong Christian message for the individual and the nation. Originally published in 1995, The President reads like today's newspaper. Mid-way through his term, a secular-humanist President becomes a Christian and has to decide how his new worldview must change his policies. His wife, children, siblings, staff and the entire nation grapple with how his new faith informs his actions. Meanwhile, terrorists are plotting to detonate a nuclear warhead in New York. The many strands of the story all come together in Manhattan as the terrorists use the World Trade Towers to launch their attack, and the center of action is a place called Ground Zero.

Educational and Thought Provoking

The President is an excellent novel that makes one think. It is also a riveting read.

Although written over 10 years ago, it certainly deals with many issues that are high profile today including a terror plot that is eerily reminiscent of 9/11.

Along with being a great story, it is very educational. The author does a superb job of highlighting the Christian roots of America. As the public school systems across the country are woefully inadequate at accurately teaching this along with other aspects of history, Hudson's review of this is a great service to readers.

I would recommend not only this book, but also 'On The Edge' by the same author.

Powerful Encouragement

Great Read! Honestly portrays both liberal thinkers and Christian conservatives as real people with sincere devotion to their positions - that was refreshing. Then Hudson gave thoughtful responses from a Christian conservative position. In addition to the suspenseful, plot-driven, character-rich novel, it provides plenty of ammunition to use in intelligent real life worldview debate.
I just reread it and loved it again. Someone is raising funds to make this a movie!
All the above, PLUS it re-energized my prayer life, reminding me that 1. NOTHING is IMPOSSIBLE with God and 2. A Christian-Judeo worldview is neither narrow nor intolerant, but the only hope for the longterm survival of America as a City On A Hill!

I love this book! Just finished it today. It is truly one I couldn't put down. It feels like the author wrote today's headlines into the plot. Loved the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. The action never slows and this one is packed with great characters that you come to feel you know in depth. Loved it!!!

Uplifting Read

I really enjoyed this novel.

The plot pulls you in, and the commentary on the state of the nation seen through the eyes of many very different characters is well done.

It reads a bit like the Christian worldview version of Atlas Shrugged with a similar writing style, though I honestly enjoyed this book more than Atlas.

You finish with a sense of hope about the positive change that could occur if even a small portion of the nation's leadership turned earnestly to God for guidance.

Great book that left me wanting more!

This is the second book I've read by Parker Hudson and just like the first I enjoyed it immensely! The President doesn't quite live up to the same level of enjoyment as On the Edge in my mind, but it is a close second! I love the concept and for a book written in the nineties it is UNCANNY how relevant the book still is in today's world. It's incredible how accurate the political gridlock talk is along with some of the developing technologies and such.

I felt tense throughout as the suspense built, driving towards the climax of the book. As the book ended, I was left wanting more resolution and progress after the demise of the main threat. In other words, I didn't want the story to end. I wanted to keep reading! So I loved the book and highly recommend you read it and see what Christianity in Washington just might look like!
