The Under Dog

Personally, Hercule Poirot is one of my favorites. I like his emphasis on psychology. I like his thinking. I like his sense of self-importance and his flair for drama. But I just cannot stand Captain Hastings. Why did the good Dame Agatha need to bring in a second-rate Dr. Watson? Many Sherlock Holmes movies and TV shows make Watson out to be a bumbling doofus, which, in the original Conan Doyle stories, he most assuredly is not. But Captain Hastings IS that doofus. His presence detracts from any Poirot story in direct relationship to how much Hastings shows up in the stories. Unfortunately, Hastings is all over The Under Dog. Whenever I meet him in these books, my question is, "How did that fool Hastings ever get promoted to the rank of Captain?"

A good short story

Always fun to read the short stories - to try to guess the end before I get to it. :-)

Short Snorts for Hercules

Short stories are never my Thing, so that needs to be considered here. Christie is always clever, but ..........
These tales are fine for a quick read at bedtime. There is nothing to upset a reader, except possibly annoyance
at the lack of development, but then....it's a Short Story.
